Alma Police Department
can now offer each police
officer a rifle, thanks to a
donation made last week
by a local firearms manu-
facturer,
THOR Global Defense
Group presented two se-
lect fire TR-15 CQB car
rifles to Alma Police Chief
Russell White on Friday.
White said that brings the
number of rifles owned by
the department to 12, more
than enough for each of the
ll full-time officers. The
l2th rifle is older and will
be used as a backup, White
said.
‘THOR is the sister com-
pany of Knesek Guns, an
international firearms dis-
tribution company and sis-
ter company located in the
same Van Buren office com-
plex as THOR.
Max Rodriguez, director
of business development
for THOR, said the com-
pany already had a working
relationship with Alma Sgt,
Brett Hartley, and after find-
ing out the department had
need, decided to go ahead
and donate the rifles, which
would have cost Alma
around $3,000 otherwise,
“This gives us a more
versatile armory to choose
from,” White said. He said
some incidents call for po-
lice to respond with a rifle
rather than a shotgun, and
now officers can keep both
in their squad cars,
Hartley is a member of
Alma police's special re-
sponse team, and White
said THOR also performs
some service work on Al-
ma’s weapons.
THOR president and
CEO Larry Knesek said the
weapons donation alsa in-
cludes a free carbine train-
ing course at THOR's fa-
cility. THOR also provides
free range memberships to
any law enforcement officer
with proper credentials.
“We're here in support of
our local law enforcement
and military and hope to
continue working close!
to ensure that the men and
women who protect us have
the best equipment possible
to do their jobs,” Knesek
said in a news release.
