Competiton Sponsor Supported By ? ethos The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll), has spearheaded the green building movementin India. The vision of the Council is to usher in a green building movement in India and facilitate India to emerge as one of the world leaders in green buildings by 2012. With the support of several key stakeholders, the green building movement has come a long way since 2001. Today there are more than 415 green buildings registered under the IGBC Green Rating programmes. Of this, about 76 buildings have already been certified. The Indian Green Building Council is also supported by more than 800 member firms all over the country that participate in the council activities. IGBC has 9 chapters in various cities spread across the country. With an objective of seeding green ideas in the minds of young budding professionals and also to encourage new thoughts and innovation in green design, IGBC organises the 'Green Design Competition’ every year. This has evoked tremendous response from the student community, year after year. The Council is pleased to announce the IGBC Green Design Competition 2010. The IGBC Green Design Competition 10 One can teach from experience, but one cannot teach experience. Hence, we decided that The IGBC Green Design Competition 10 will seek solutions based on the experience of students of design. Albert Einstein is known to have said “The only source of knowledge is experience’. Itis now time to put your experience to use. As students of design, you would have been experiencing working and living conditions at your college premises. For various feasons, ranging from the time when it was built, the stages it was built in, the maintenance of the structure etc., it is likely that your department building may not be ranking high on the sustainability report card. The challenge before you for The IGBC Green Design Competition 10 is to carry out a sustainability and energy audit of your department building and evolve a design which will make it a Zero-energy premises and an autonomous structure. You could choose to retrofit the existing structure or begin afresh with the existing site plan. Your design solution should justify your choice. Points to remember: * Ensure the practicality of your design solution given the current scenario of our built environment; available materials and technology. The solution should have the scope of implementation if the possibility arises. + Involvement of the faculty members at your institution is desirable in the evolution of your design. +» Acomparison between the existing performance and the proposed scheme would be required to understand the efficacy of the solution. The Format Open to all undergraduate students of Architecture and Design across the country. Team Composition: Maximum of two members. It would be extremely useful to the students if this could be incorporated into the curriculum of the students in the manner found suitable by the faculty. Requirement for submission 1. Adesign analysis, qualitative and quantitative, of the existing structure. 2. Plans, Sections, Elevations, Sketches and any written information that the team considers important. 3. All sheets should be of A3 size and the number to be restricted to a maximum of 8 sheets. Please ensure that your names, college names and other details are written only atthe rear side of the sheets. 4. Acknowledge references used for case studies and also any design ideas that have been adopted or adapted. 5. Wewould also require you to furnish a letter stating that the design is your property. You may send soft copies along with hard copies. The soft copies should be sent as power point presentations or pdf presentations to be compatible with Microsoft office 2003 Awards: An eminent jury will assess the entries and arrive at the top three winning entries and the awards will be presented during the Green Building Congress 2010 between October 6th and 8th 2010 at Chennai. The top three winning teams get an opportunity to participate in the Congress with travel and accommodation provided for the duration of the Congress.
