CEO Burrell Ellis
DeKalb County Government
330 Ponce de Leon Avenue
Decatur, Georgia
Dear Burrell:
I hereby tender my resignation as Chief Communications Officer (CCO), effective Friday,
July 30, 2010. As I shared with you recently, I contemplated returning to the private sector
and this is an appropriate time for me to pursue new endeavors. Outside of DeKalb County I
can fully pursue the goals and objectives that have become vitally important to me at this
time.
During my tenure with DeKalb County, I gave maximum efforts to the role of CCO, routinely
working 10 to 12 hours days, working on weekends, and being on call 24/7 to you and senior
members of your administration. Under my leadership, the Communications office was
responsible for numerous successful projects, responded promptly, thoroughly, and efficiently
to hundreds of requests for information from the media and citizens, and worked both
professionally and effectively with departments across county government to support their
communications needs. We especially worked closely with Public Safety officials on behalf
of the county. DeKalb has some of the finest officers who are well trained and are highly
effective in the roles that they perform each day. Our most recent project in conjunction with
the Public Safety department, Marquel’s Pledge, promises to be one that will provide DeKalb
with state and national attention as a model for reducing celebratory gunfire in local
communities. Iam very proud of the work that the Communications team did in this effort
and they are to be commended for it. I have been very fortunate to have worked with a
talented and highly effective group of people that have brought all of their individual talents
to bear in support of their daily roles and each project that the Communications office was
directed to assume or support. I have every confidence that members of the Communications
team will successfully see the Marquel’s Pledge campaign to its conclusion and will continue
to strive for excellence in the roles that they play for DeKalb County government.
‘Thank you for the opportunity serve in this role and I wish you the best in your endeavors to
bring about a better DeKalb
