Dear Governor Strckla
‘Thank you for your recent leter regarding the Asian carp threat. I share your concems about
the serious economic and ecological damage tha this invasive species would create as it moves
further north, ether into the Great Lakes or up the Mississippi River into Minnesota.
Minnesota's Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been on alert tothe possible arrival of
Asian carp into our state. In conjunction with the US. Fish and Wildlife Service, we conducted a
2004 study on how to limit an invasion of this species, and since 2007 we have been actively
‘implementing a related work plan. To date, no populations ae known tobe in Minnesota,
‘Minnesota would be happy to participate in an emergency suit this month to coordinate our
responses and push for new solutions including the physical barrie that you mention in your
letter. Through courtesy capies of this letter, 1 am encouraging, Minnesota's congressional
delegation and others to ji me in advocating for additional action,
‘Thanks again for your letter regarding this important issue
Sincerely,
SETS
