PREFACE
The Iloilo Provincial Profile is the official annual publication of the
Province of Iloilo designed to guide development planners, policy makers,
potential investors both local and foreign, researchers and students in the
pursuit of their respective development and academic endeavors.
i
Republic of the Philippines
Province of Iloilo
I have stopped illegal fishing and have brought back the bounty produce of our
seas. I have stopped illegal gambling and have empowered our people through skills
trainings and boosted the capacity of our people through micro finance and livelihood
potentials. I also fought cattle rustlers, drug lords and criminals were brought to the
arms of the law.
We have been honored six times for our good stewardships of our environment
through the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran. I have led a good example in public service
having been awarded by the National Association of Social Workers as “one of the most
outstanding governors” in the country in social services. This example I believed was
emulated by employers of IPG in the span of 9 years as their offices and them were
honored for exemplary public service.
It is my profound wish that our Province and its profile will continue to be
attractive, grow mature to a better understanding and experience of what is a quality
life should be.
ii
Republic of the Philippines
Province of Iloilo
As we struggle and hurdle all the odds that may come our way,
cooperation, competence and courage must be in our hearts and
minds in fulfilling our dream; a more peaceful and progressive Iloilo
Province.
I pray that the Lord God Almighty bless and guide us all.
ROLEX T. SUPLICO

C. Topography
The topography of the Province of Iloilo varies from flat lands
and rolling hills to mountain peaks and ranges. The mountain ranges
lie along the border between Iloilo and the provinces of Antique and
Capiz, and roll down into flat plains towards the coastal towns.
Almost one-third of the entire province is considered flat.
E. Soil
There are seventeen types of soil found in the province.
Generally, the soil is fertile and suitable to almost all types of
agricultural crops. The loam type of soil is predominant and
conducive to farming.
About 175 rivers and creeks traverse the entire province and
these are identified as possible sources of irrigation water. The
Jalaur river basin records the highest annual flow and is
considered as the major source of irrigation water. The province
has potential underground water supply, which is mostly tapped for
domestic use.

4. Tourist Destinations
Iloilo. A beautiful province resplendent with natural wonders, rich history, and
warm, engaging people.
Iloilo, they say is the heart of the Philippines. It is a small province with a
big package. It prides itself as the center of education, trade, commerce and tourism
in the region. It lies in the midst of both; air and sea traffic. From Manila, three major
airlines have daily roundtrip flights that take about an hour, by boat, two shipping
lines have regular trips taking about 20 hours, 12 times weekly. A relatively short trip
and you are magically transported to a totally different environment. If ever, a place
could truly be called a melting pot of people and
cultures, Iloilo is it.
Peaceful climate, dynamism of the local economy, a better quality of life, rich
pool of skilled workforce, and excellent accessibility and linkages are factors that help
maintained its competitive position among other regions in attracting private
investments and penetrating new markets for its products.
Iloilo truly offers more than the usual. Culture and arts. Destinations. World-
class festivals. Cuisine. People. Wherever you go, whatever you do, you will always
enjoy the warmest and friendliest welcome in Iloilo.

items.

2.) CARABAO-CARROZAHAN
Originated in 1973 the town of
Pavia celebrates the provinces’ oldest
festival with a carabao parade and race
participated in by the town’s 18
barangays.
3.) BINANOG
The first festival that Iloilo
annually celebrates. The rich culture of
Lambunao is depicted in this annual
celebration highlighting the coupling
mechanism of banog birds in a
showdown of Binanog dance.
