Communications Assistant (Intern)

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organization focused


on supporting activities that preserve the environmental and agricultural integrity of Ontario’s
Greenbelt Region. We seek a Communications Assistant who has innovative and fresh ideas and
the capacity to execute dynamic public awareness efforts that highlight the value and
significance of Ontario’s Greenbelt. Strong writing, project management and multi-tasking skills
are essential.

Scope of Work:
The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications Director, the President and
other Foundation team members to:

• Write press releases and track media attention


• Write stories
• Draft content for the monthly newsletter and work with the Communications team to
update web and social stories weekly
• Create the Foundation’s Annual Report and other publications
• Manage projects
• Distribute and create Foundation educational materials
• Plan, organize and execute events for the Foundation
• Additional duties and projects as required

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a recent university graduate with:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills (press release writing, media calls, etc)
• Online and social media skills would be an asset
• Effective presentation skills and comfort interacting with the public
• Success dealing with the media
• Ability to balance multiple projects and maintain a flexible schedule
• Experience working as a team player, yet independently motivated
• Ability to work to deadline
• A sense of humour
• A valid drivers license
