Specific Objective: By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to tell their
fellow classmates and myself something that they learned about a classmate they
didnt already know before. Example: Kristinas favorite color is purple or Katie
has been to Europe.
Concomitant Objective: The students will be physically active while also working
on their attention and listening skills.

Procedures Followed
Warm Up: NONE NEEDED

Transition:
-On the count of three put your toes on the green
line.
-Compliment a student for doing so.
-Set induction given there.
Set Induction:
-With toes on green line.
-Ask, How many of you were sneaky growing up
and were able to get away with plenty of mischief?
-Say, Well you are going to either learn how or use
the same set of skills you used back in the day
today in order to play a game called Categories.
-Explain Learnable Piece
Learnable Piece:
-You will be learning about your classmates today.
-That includes things like their favorite colors,
favorite foods and so on and so forth.
-Your goal by the end of this game is to be able to
tell me something you learned about another
classmate that you didnt know before. We will be
discussing it at the end of the game.

Materials

Presentation of New Material/Directions:


-Once you have the students full attention explain.
-In this game one player will be it. They will stand at
the center cone with their back facing the rest of the
players.
-All other players will be lined up along the opposite
end of the court with one hand touching the wall.
-The player who is it will say one thing about
themselves. For example, My favorite color is
purple. If your favorite color is also purple you will
remove your hand from the wall and quietly try to
make it across the gym and between the two cones
without the person who is It hearing you.
-If the person who is It hears you they will turn
around and try to tag you before you make it
through the cones.
-If you are tagged you are now It
-If you arent tagged you can go back to the same
starting position and play again.
Also, if you go outside of the boundaries (marked by
4 cones) you are automatically It
-SAFETY:
There will be lots of movement so you need to
watch out for your neighbors.
When tagging make sure to use two fingers
and gently tap the opponent on their
shoulders (Demonstrate).
-Checking for Understanding:
Does anybody have any questions?
Thumbs up if you understand the directions.

Transition:
-Ask, Would anybody like to volunteer to be It
first or do I need to pick somebody?
-Assign somebody to be it first if nobody volunteers.
-Dismiss the person who is it to the center cone and
then dismiss the rest of the students to stand at the
opposite end of the gymnasium with their hand
extended out and touching the wall.
Guided Activity Time with Corrective Feedback:

Transition:
-Students return to green line after game is over.

Possible Modifications:
-If the player who is it is having trouble tagging the
students
Adjust the cones to make the playing field
smaller
Allow the player who is it to move closer to
the other players
