Research Methods in Social Work

Search the evidence and determine which evidence based is most appropriate for your client:

One of the evidence based intervention studies that I obtained is The Cognitive- behavioral
intervention for children who have been sexually abused. The normal or standard intervention
used is usually psychoanalysis or psychodynamic approaches. I did not find a vigorous
intervention with high standards or a good quality of evidence. Most studies suggest that it is a
need for more research. Cognitive behavioral intervention objective is to assess the
effectiveness of (CBT) in addressing the long term effects of sexual abuse on children and
adolescence up to eighteen years of age. This approach could be helpful according to the review
of this study. The strongest evidence for positive impact of (CBT) appears to be in reducing
(PTSD) and anxiety symptoms. This measure still was seen as moderate. The meta-analysis from
five studies suggest an average decrease of 1.9 points on the child depression inventory
immediately after intervention. For these reasons I may consider using this intervention if it was
my only source.
I found this article on the Cochran library database. It is the evidence based health care. I used
the Wayne State University Library data base . I went to the Cochran collaboration tab and put in
the key words Sexually abused boys and the data that came up was not that specific it
brought up children that have been sexually abused articles and the interventions.
