Truth and Perceptions Lesson Summary

In todays first lesson of Truth and Perception, we filled out a passport about the activities at the 9 different
stations located around the school. Below are the different stations and what was learnt at these stations and
how to do the activities. We were in groups of 4 for this activity of randomly generated by age and year level.

Station 1 - Sensing Space

In this activity, we had one of our group members to lay on the floor and another group member to hold their
arms up and slowly bring them towards the floor. This made me feel like I was going through the floor or floating

Station 2 - Optical Illusion

In this activity we were to look at the optical illusion and describe what we saw. I saw an old lady and a young
lady looking away. It depended on the angle and what your brain focused on to which picture you saw.

Station 3 - Hot Stuff

In this activity there were 3 ice cream containers full of water. The first one was hot water, the second was room
temperature and the third one was cold water. We were to put one hand in each hot and cold water bucket for 30
seconds. We then put both hands in the room temperature bucket. This made the hand that was in the hot bucket
cool down to body temperature and the hand in the cold bucket to heat to body temperature.

Station 4 - Rorschach Test

In this activity we were to observe the image and describe what we saw. I saw a symmetrical butterfly. We then
had to create our own using paint. My Rorschach test resulted in an abstract picture that looked messy.

Station 5 - Broken Straw

In this activity we were to crouch down and observe the straw through the side off a beaker. By doing this I
worked out that the straw doesnt line up. This is due to light bending.

Station 6 - Magic Eye

In this activity we had to look at a poster and observe what we saw. I saw a blue abstract image of nothing in
particular. I then moved closer or back a little while remained concentrated on the image. By doing this it made
the image look 3D. This is due to your vision overlapping to make a different object.

Station 7 - Are your senses lying to you?

In this activity we had to watch the YouTube video of someone saying bah and fah with the same audio for both
videos. Depending on what video you were watching determined what sound you heard. By doing this I worked
out that sound depends on visual.

Station 8 - Oculus Rift

In this activity I didnt have enough time to participate but by watching other peoples reactions and from
experience I worked out that this device makes you feel like you are present in the video. In this case we were on
a roller coaster. It is meant to give you the same feeling as it would to go on a roller coaster. I believe it works by
using the visual and audio sensors. It seems realistic when you only focus on sight and sound.

Station 9 Pineapple

In this activity we sampled salt and vinegar chips and on a whiteboard ticked in the yes or no column whether we
liked the taste or not. Personally I dont like chips so I didnt really enjoy the taste or texture but I learnt that
different tastebuds depend on diet and chemicals that the body reacts to. Different chemicals have different
effects.
