Residential Schools
Aboriginal children were sent to Residential School. It started in the 1830s. Aboriginal
children were taken from their parents. They could not see their parents all year. Brothers
and sisters were not allowed to see each other all year. Boys and Girls tried to escape. The
last Residential School was closed in 1196.
Daily like in a Residential School was hard. The students had to eat watery soup while the
teachers ate better food. Children were not allowed to speak their own language. They had
to sleep each night in their dorm. They were often afraid and his. They were forced to wear
the white mans uniforms and shoes. They all had the same haircut. They all longed to go
home. Residential School was really tough for Aboriginal children.
