Abstract
Thisspecificationcoversthreetypesofmasonrycementforusewheremortarformasonryisrequired.Masonry
cementshallconformtotheapplicablephysicalpropertyrequirementsprescribed.Themasonrycementshall
besampledinaccordancewithpracticeC183.Thetemperatureandrelativehumidityoftheairinthevicinityof
themixingslabanddrymaterials,molds,baseplates,andmixingbowlshallconformtotherequirementsoftest
methodC109/C109M.DeterminenormalconsistencybytheVicatapparatusinaccordancewithtestmethodC
187.DetermineautoclaveexpansioninaccordancewithtestmethodC151.Determinethetimeofsettingby
theGillmoreneedlemethodinaccordancewithtestmethodC266.Determinethedensityofthemasonry
cementinaccordancewithtestmethodC188,usingkeroseneastheliquid.Thesandshallbeablendofequal
partsbyweightofgradedstandardsandandstandard2030sandconformingtospecificationC778.The
compressivetestingproceduresformortarsarepresented.Waterretentionshallbedeterminedinaccordance
withtheproceduresintestmethodC1506.

1.2UnitsThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinchpoundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.
Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalentstherefore,eachsystemshallbeused
independentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnonconformancewiththe
standard.ValuesinSIunitsshallbeobtainedbymeasurementinSIunitsorbyappropriateconversion,using
theRulesforConversionandRoundinggiveninStandard,ofmeasurementsmadeinotherunits.Valuesare
statedinonlySIunitswheninchpoundunitsarenotusedinpractice.
