3D Tour : Summary
When picking antennas for client coverage, choose the
lowest gain antenna that will do the job (i.e. provide the
target signal level and throughput over the coverage
area)
The presumed advantage of higher gain antennas is
often complicated by EIRP restrictions and vertical
beamwidth considerations: run it through the 3D planning
tool and make sure the vertical coverage is sufficient!
Generally, antennas of higher gain than 5 dBi will not
provide stronger signal to the clients, but may do a better
job of pulling in weak signals from the clients (on the AP
receive side)
Check that signals and throughputs meet objectives in
BOTH directions in the planning tool!
