Local Maintenance Terminal

About This Chapter


The HUAWEI local maintenance terminal (LMT) is the software that runs over the operation
and maintenance terminal. The LMT communicates with the background administration module
(BAM) on the SRU of the GGSN9811 through the local area network (LAN) or wide area
network (WAN), which enables the operation and maintenance of the GGSN9811.
1.1 LMT Software
The HUAWEI local maintenance terminal (LMT) software contains the following: LMT, File
Transfer Protocol (FTP) client, FTP server, LMT service manager, trace viewer, monitor viewer,
performance browser tool, and convert management system.
1.2 Help Systems
The HUAWEI local maintenance terminal (LMT) offers a wide range of effective help systems.

1.1 LMT Software


The HUAWEI local maintenance terminal (LMT) software contains the following: LMT, File
Transfer Protocol (FTP) client, FTP server, LMT service manager, trace viewer, monitor viewer,
performance browser tool, and convert management system.
1.1.1 Local Maintenance Terminal
The local maintenance terminal (LMT) provides the authority management, alarm management,
device maintenance, and message tracing functions through a graphic user interface (GUI). The
LMT also provides abundant man-machine language (MML) commands with which you can
maintain the device and manage the performance.
1.1.2 FTP Client
The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client communicates with the FTP server through the FTP
protocol. They exchange the performance data, configuration data, and maintenance data. Thus,
the service quality is improved.
1.1.3 FTP Server
The local computer can be used as a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server for access if the
parameters of the FTP server are set.
1.1.4 LMT Service Manager
The local maintenance terminal (LMT) service manager enables the communication between
the LMT software and the SRU. In addition, it can manage the server processes. You do not
need to manually start the LMT service manager.
1.1.5 Trace Viewer
The trace viewer is used to offline view the saved trace files of which the suffix is .tmf. Thus,
the trace messages can be viewed.
1.1.6 Monitor Viewer
The monitor viewer is used to review the data and display the state by opening the monitor file
of which the suffix is .mrf.
1.1.7 Performance Browser Tool
The performance browser tool is used to manage performance measurement tasks and check the
performance measurement results.
1.1.8 Convert Management System
The convert management system is used to transfer the alarm to the alarm box. In addition, this
system can transfer the information exchanged between the SRU and the alarm box.

1.1.1 Local Maintenance Terminal


The local maintenance terminal (LMT) provides the authority management, alarm management,
device maintenance, and message tracing functions through a graphic user interface (GUI). The
LMT also provides abundant man-machine language (MML) commands with which you can
maintain the device and manage the performance.

Start Mode
Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > Local Maintenance
Terminal.

Interface
The interface of the LMT is composed of the system menu, tool bar, navigation window, output
window, client window, and status bar. The client window provides the MML command link
client, device panel, and tracing window.
Figure 1-1 shows the interface of the LMT when the MML command line client is displayed in
the client window.

1.1.2 FTP Client


The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client communicates with the FTP server through the FTP
protocol. They exchange the performance data, configuration data, and maintenance data. Thus,
the service quality is improved.

Boot Mode
Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > FTP Client .
NOTE

The SRU serves as an FTP server when the FTP client backs up data. Run ACT FTPSVR to start the FTP
server of the GGSN9811 before using the FTP function.

Window
The window of the FTP client comprises the menu bar, toolbar, server input area, Local Folder
List, Local File List, Server List, and Connection tips. Refer to Figure 1-2.

1.1.3 FTP Server


The local computer can be used as a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server for access if the
parameters of the FTP server are set.

Boot Mode
The FTP server automatically starts when the local maintenance terminal (LMT) starts.

Window
is displayed in the taskbar of the LMT window.
After the FTP server starts, the system icon
You can set, stop, or log out of the FTP server by right-clicking the icon.

Figure 1-3 shows the parameter configuration of the FTP server. Table 1-1 lists the parameter
settings.

Parameter

Description

User name

The initial user name is admin.

Password

The initial password is admin.

Working directory

It is the directory where the executed file is saved. By default, it is


Installation path\adaptor\serveradaptor\GGSN9811\lib. All the
related log information is saved in this directory.

Port number

The initial port number of the FTP server is 21.

Thread number

It specifies the number of the processes that can be initiated. The


default value is 50.

1.1.4 LMT Service Manager


The local maintenance terminal (LMT) service manager enables the communication between
the LMT software and the SRU. In addition, it can manage the server processes. You do not
need to manually start the LMT service manager.
If the user logs out of the LMT service manager abnormally or the LMT service manager does
not start due to some reasons, you need to manually start the LMT service manager. Otherwise,
the LMT cannot be connected to the device.

Two modes are available to start the LMT service manager.

Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > LMT Service
Manager.

After the LMT software is installed, the LMT service manager automatically starts when
the computer on which the LMT software is installed starts.

Window
After the LMT service manager starts, the system icon

is displayed in the taskbar in the LMT

window. Right-click . Then, you can choose shortcut menu Start to start the LMT service
manager and choose shortcut menu Stop to shut down the LMT service manager. Figure 1-4
shows LMT Service Manager.

NOTE

LMT Server is the process module of the LMT server. The client communicates with the process module
through the CORBA interface. In addition, the client is connected to the SRU through the CORBA interface.

You can connect the LMT with the server or disconnect the LMT from the server through the
LMT service manager in two ways.

Click LMT Server. You can choose shortcut menu Start to set the status to Started. In
addition, you can choose shortcut menu Stop to set the status to Stopped.

You can choose Operation > Start to set the status to Started. In addition, you can
choose Operation > Stop to set the status to Stopped.

In the LMT service manager, when the status of the LMT server is Stopped, the following
problems may arise:
l

The operator cannot log in to the LMT.

If the operator logs in to the LMT, the LMT is disconnected from the LMT server soon.

Right-click LMT Server. Then, you can choose shortcut Started or Stopped to set the
communication between the LMT and the server.

1.1.5 Trace Viewer


The trace viewer is used to offline view the saved trace files of which the suffix is .tmf. Thus,
the trace messages can be viewed.

Boot Mode
You can start the trace viewer in three ways.

Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > Trace
Viewer.

Choose icon

Choose View > Trace Viewer in the LMT window.

in the toolbar in the LMT window.

Window
The trace viewer window comprises the system menu, toolbar, and pane for browsing the trace
message. Refer to Figure 1-5.

1.1.6 Monitor Viewer


The monitor viewer is used to review the data and display the state by opening the monitor file
of which the suffix is .mrf.

Boot Mode
You can start the monitor viewer in three ways.

Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > Monitor
Viewer.

Choose View > Monitor Viewer in the LMT window.

Window
The monitor viewer window comprises the system menu, toolbar, and pane for browsing the
monitor data. Refer to Figure 1-6.

1.1.7 Performance Browser Tool


The performance browser tool is used to manage performance measurement tasks and check the
performance measurement results.

Start Mode
Choose Start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > Performance
Browser Tool.

Window
The window of the performance browsing tool is composed of the system menu, tool bar,
performance browsing window, and status bar. Refer to Figure 1-7.

1.1.8 Convert Management System


The convert management system is used to transfer the alarm to the alarm box. In addition, this
system can transfer the information exchanged between the SRU and the alarm box.

Boot Mode
Choose start > Programs > HUAWEI Local Maintenance Terminal > Convert
Management System.

Window
After the convert management system is started, the system icon

is displayed in the taskbar

in the LMT window. Right-click


. Then, you can choose shortcut Restore. Alternatively,
you can click the system icon Convert Management System to restore. If you right-click the
system icon, and then choose Exit, the convert management system shuts down.
When the serial port connected to the alarm box is faulty during communication, the system icon
is displayed in the taskbar in the LMT window.
The convert management system window comprises the title bar, system menu, toolbar, output
window, and status bar. Refer to Figure 1-8.

Boot Mode

Select an MML command in the navigation tree

This document does not cover the details of the MML commands. For more information about the parameter
