Tips on Cleansing and Clearing Crystals

To some, there might be a little difference between the terms "cleansing" and "clearing".
Some may define "crystal cleansing" as just specifically removing the negative or
unwanted energies in the crystal, not necessarily mean to totally clear the crystal of its
previously stored energy or programming.

On the other hand, "crystal clearing" means to totally remove the previously stored or
programmed energy and information, making it ready for another programming and
energy storage. Like in a computer, "crystal cleansing" is just like a "disk clean-up",
while "crystal clearing" is completely formatting your computer.

Any method can be effective depending on the user. It is merely the intention that will
direct the process, either you just want cleansing or totally clearing your crystal. Though,
most of the time, clearing a crystal may need a stronger, much definite and conscious
intention throughout the process. Sometimes it requires a much longer and even multiple
methods, depending on the quality and intensity of the energy and vibration stored in the
crystal.

Actively expressing your intention before or during the process may always be necessary.
According to my personal experience, the most effective way is by placing the crystal in
my palm before beginning the process and then asking the crystal to cooperate with the
cleansing and clearing process. Somewhere during the process, I also visualize the crystal
removing unwanted energies or completely returning to its original and natural state.

Generally, clearing or cleansing is always necessary after purchasing a crystal since it has
been exposed to a lot of energies. It will also help soothe and balance the jostled
electromagnetic fields before you begin working with its energies. This is also your first

step in taking care of your crystal, therefore it is your initial bonding with the crystal,
which is very essential in establishing a productive relationship with your crystal.

For crystals that you receive as a gift, it is generally your personal decision whether or
not to cleanse it. The giver's vibration may or not be congenial to yours.

The following are some additional techniques and most of them I have personally
discovered and proven myself:

1. On Using Salts

*Common sea salt is generally and specifically used for cleansing crystals since it
removes and purify surface vibrations. Its negative and positive ions are released in the
water, neutralizing the quartz electrical surface charges while not affecting the embedded
program. However some salts like Epsom salts have highly charged ions and it only
recommended for totally clearing a crystal.

A crystal expert also says never to use a metallic container to hold the solution, as the
magnetic field created between the metal container and the salt may damage the sensitive
electrons in the crystal.

Some practitioners do not entirely agree with submerging crystals into salt water
considering the possible damage it can cause to certain crystals. Instead of using water,
they propose that burying the crystal in a handful or bowl of sea salt should be enough to
do the trick.

2. On Using Herbs

Herbs and crystals are good partners. Herbs can powerfully cleanse crystals and restore it
natural state and balance. U can achieve this by rubbing or burying the crystal into

herbs(fresh or dry) like sage, basil, bay leaves, and other purifying and cleansing herbs.
You can also use herbal and essential oils and anoint your crystal. Flower petals are
another excellent choice for this method, as flowers are always radiating happy and
positive energy.

3. Using the Four Elements

You can cleanse or clear a crystal through the purification and balancing power of
elements of fire, air, water and earth. Carefully passing a crystal through a candle flame,
smudging with incense, submerging it in purified or natural water(streams, river, sea,
etc.), and burying it on earth are all famous methods.

4. On breathing method.

*This works best with single crystals esp. natural terminated crystals with facets such as
raw or polished quartz point. Hold the crystal with your thumb and index finger on its
opposite facets/sides, with the tip pointing up. With the intention of clearing the crystal in
your mind, inhale through your nose and exhale forcefully through your mouth in the
direction of the crystal, as if your breath carries your intention. Do this on each facet until
you're done on all of its sides. Sometimes it takes time to clear a crystal esp. if its
previously programmed with strong vibrations so you have to repeat the process until you
feel that the crystal is completely clear or cleansed.

5. The Sun Method.

It was mentioned above that some crystals can be damaged or fade under the Sun. The
solution is to submerge the crystal in a bowl of clean or purified water while leaving it
under the sun. You may also cover the crystal with white cloth. By doing this, sunlight is
not directly touching the crystal. Water will absorb some heat and the white cloth will
deflect harmful radiation. In this way you may leave the crystal under the sun for a much
longer time.

6. Using Sounds.

Another effective way to clear a crystal is by infusing it with sound waves. You may use
any type of musical instruments. You can also use a tuning fork, bells or singing bowls.
You may even use sound speakers! Or simply, by using your hand by clapping, or if you
can sing, you may sing into your crystal! Make sure that the direction of sound is
towards the crystal. The higher the tone produced and sustained, the better.
I have also seen someone using a piano to clear a crystal. The crystal is placed inside the
piano chamber, while all keys are to be struck from the lowest to the highest, allowing all
the sounds to resonate and dissipate inside the chamber before removing the crystal.
You may also use the sound of "OM" or "Aum", the Universal Sound. But what's the
pitch? Just remember the moan of a cow!!! But of course instead of "mooooh", its the
reverse - "ooohm". Make sure that the sound is clear and and the pitch is sustained for at
least 6 seconds. Visualize and feel the vibrations penetrating the crystal and restoring the
balance. Continue until you feel the crystal is completely cleared.

7. Using Crystal Clusters and Geodes.

If you already have a crystal cluster or geode, or know someone who does, you may also
place the crystal on the cluster or inside the crystal geode cavity and leave it there until
the crystal becomes clear. The crystals in the cluster or geode will do the task, as the
energy and vibration generated by these group of crystals will together resonate through
the crystal, putting it back into its original state of vibration, leaving it cleared and
cleansed of foreign energies.

8. Using Other Crystals with Cleansing Properties

Crystals with natural cleansing and purifying properties like selenite, amethyst, citrine,
aquamarine, garnet, snowflake obsidian, tourmalinated and smoky quartz can also be
used to cleanse a crystal. Just place the crystal to be cleansed close to the purifier crystal.
Ask the purifier crystal to use its natural power to cleanse and clear the other crystal. On
the other hand also ask the crystal being cleansed to let go of its negative and unwanted
energies.

9. Using talismans, symbols, and amulets.

Simply draw, write or print the symbol or talisman in a virgin paper or parchment then
after empowering it, place the crystal over the symbol, leaving it there until the crystal is
cleared.
You can also use tarot cards Major Arcana The Star and The Sun, and runes
Haggal/Haggalaz, Sowilo, and Laguz.

10. Using Hands

This is one of the simplest ways of cleansing and clearing crystals. According to
occultists our left and right hand holds positively (electric) and negatively (magnetic)
charged energies. Therefore it can neutralize the unbalanced charges of the crystal. Place
the crystal between your hands just like in a praying gesture, and imagine a white or
golden light flowing from above down to your body passing through your Crown Chakra
all through your Heart Chakra. Then feel the energy flowing from your heart into your
hands and going into the crystal, and visualize the light purifying the crystal.

11. Violet Flame Technique

Occultists regard the energy and vibration of the Violet Flame as one of the most
purifying and cleansing. Place the crystal on your projective palm. Conceive a violet
flame brightly burning in your hand, cleansing and purifying the crystal.

Try these and discover which are the most effective for you. Different methods may be
effective and useful from individual to individual, and from time to time, on different
situations and instances. Always remember that in all Crystal work, you should be guided
by your own INTUITION
