It's used to express actions at the present time and usual actions. It's used in affirmative, negative
and interrogative forms. Let's review them:
Affirmative form:
You dance very well.
He dances very well.
Negative form:
You do not dance very well.
You don't dance very well. (contracted form)
She does not dance very well.
She doesn't dance very well. (contracted form)
Interrogative form:
Do you dance very well?
Does he dance very well?
RULES:
Singular third person: he/ she/ it
1 - Most verbs: add s to the verb.
Examples: You dance. / She dances.
They play. / He plays.
We see. / It sees.
2 - Verbs ending in s, ss, ch, sh, z, o: add es to the verb.
Examples: You wash. / He washes.
We dress. / She dresses.
They go. / It goes.
3 - Verbs ending in y preceeded by consonant: eliminate y and add ies.
Examples: I study. / He studies.
You cry. / She cries.
We dry. / It dries.
Lets practise:
1) Turn the sentences into negative form, using the contracted form:
a. Mary forgets about her tests always.
b.You write a lot.
c. Daisy waits for the bus at evening.
d. I expect many sellings.
e. Natasha and Greg respect each other.
f. Lucas studies hard.
g. She sees everything clearly.
h. Douglas eats too much.
i.The dog barks a lot.
j. They want the first prize.
k.We need more attention.
l.You watch TV every day.
2) Turn the sentences into questions:
a You read many books.
b They work together.
c Samantha wakes up at 7.
d Srgio walks in the morning.
e The little cat spies at night.
f Jonathan wants to be the champion.
g You wait for better days.
h Sam washes his own clothes.
i She cries every night.
j It goes too fast.
k Manuela drinks much water.
l We cook a nice meal.
3) Complete the blanks with the correct form of simple present tense for singular third person:
a Esmeralda.............................everyday in the afternoon. (run)
b Marcos..................................mountains every year. (climb)
c She..................................Law at the university. (study)
d It..................................... its own body with the tongue. (wash)
e He................................football very well. (play)
f The elephant...................................everything! (remember)

4) Make interrogative and negative sentences. Follow the model:
MODEL: she/ desire/ a scholarship
Does she desire a scholarship?
She doesn't desire a scholarship.
