Topic: Use of technology in classrooms. We believe we should use it and teachers should be consistently educated in such matters Lesson Length: 20 - 30 minutes Resources: SMART Board PowerPoint http://www.abcya.com/sight_words_recognition.htm http://www.teachers.ab.ca/Publications/The%20Learning %20Team/Volume-14/Number2/Pages/Technology.aspx GoNoodle http://www.securedgenetworks.com/blog/10-Reasons-Today-sStudents-NEED-Technology-in-the-Classroom Objectives: By the end of the lesson, students will: Have an understanding of the positive uses technology has within the classroom Learn ways to use technology in the classrooms Learn about different ways one can educate themselves to learn how to operate such resources in the classrooms Introduction: 4 minutes Explain that we will be discussing the issue of technology within the classroom Give background knowledge on why we chose our topic and why we feel it is important in our school systems to have it included. Give quick survey of students who agree or disagree with our point of view (then after our presentation do the same thing). Main Body: 15 minutes First reason as to why we believe technology should be included: students are surrounded by technology o Do a survey with a few questions How many people had computers in their house growing up? Say around 3 years old. When did you remember any of the current technology used today, be entered into your own classroom? If nothing, what was the cool thing at the time?
o It will be something that will always be apart of their lives. To
access the real world they will be required to use technology and know how to use it efficiently. o An online study by Ashley Weinwright found 10 different reasons for why technology is beneficial for the classrooms. An alternative approach and different teaching styles is mentions, and embedded in almost all of the aspects. Second reason: alternative approaches to teaching styles o Helps maintain attention span: o Adapts to the different learning styles: Pertaining to the 7 different learning styles. How there is something that can be used to help eachdemonstrate the different types of smart board games a student can play. The cat sight word game. Why upgrading? technology is constantly changing, therefore need upgrading course: o Technology is constantly changing. Explain why it is changing, and the important reasons why someone must stay updated and cannot use the same technology year after year. o The ATAs perspective on technology in the classrooms. o Technology is expensive, therefore we must make the most out of it. GIve quotes on how much different items cost. Sponge Activity: If there is time, we will show a comedic YouTube video of a teacher using old technology and students falling asleep. Conclusion: 5 minutes Conclude by reiterating our main points. For these reasons we believe technology is a benefit and because of such, teachers need consistent refresher courses to stay updated Take a brief survey and see who agrees with technology in the classrooms now. Assessment:
