1. Suppose you will write a novel that portrays the sufferings of Filipinos and
the luxury of the few, how would you start it? Write a rough summary of your
planned story.
Fourteen-year old Felipe Alosius was born in a poor family in Tondo,
Manila. His mother was a dishwasher in a wealthy Chinese family in
Binondo. While his father drives for the same family. He has two sisters, an
eight-year old Miranda and a three-year old Elisa. Felipe is an ambitious boy.
He is bright for his age and he through the generosity of Mr. Wu, the family
man of the Chinese family where his parents work, he goes to same school of
Mien, Mr. Wus son, who has the same age as his. In exchange for this, Felipe
will be Miens personal tutor. They are very good friends.
One day, Felipe stayed in the school library waiting for Mien to show
up for their daily tutorial. However Mien got caught up with his friends and
missed his tutorial with Felipe. Before their exams, Mien asked Felipe to let
him copy his answers. Felipe refused and blamed him for not showing up the
other day. Desperate of his fathers approval, Mien broke into their school
and stole the exam questionnaires. The next day, he was able to answer
confidently their exams. Bearing the grudge of Felipes refusal, he slipped the
questionnaires in Felipes bag. On their way out of the class, Mien purposely
tripped Felipe, allowing his ragged bag to be thrown down to the floor,
scattering papers just in time for their professor to see the stolen
questionnaire. Felipe swore that he had no idea about it, but he was expelled,
and no recommendation was provided, preventing him from entering to
schools
2. Rizal believed that education is the only way to regain freedom. Do you
think his belief is correct?
Rizal has a strong ground and conviction giving that statement to all people,
especially meant for Filipinos. He is halfway right in believing that education
is the only way to regain freedom. But education without application and
with mediocrity is half-baked promise to freedom. One has to passionately
apply what he has learned to help his society and the people around him.

3. Assuming that youre a debater on the proposition side, write a

constructive speech about Andres Bonifacio as the National hero instead of
Rizal.
Members of the jury, speakers of the opposite side, ladies and
gentleman, good morning. Never mind what we hear about Rizal being a
national hero because of his intellect and propagandas. Rizal was not the
typical Filipino who experienced serious financial crisis and treated purely as
an indio as low as how Spaniards and other colonials treated the rest of us.
He did not experience the pain we have suffered. He was just another middleclass intellect who received praises more than shame.
Andres Bonifacio on the other hand, came from a poor family. He
strived his way to study without the formal education because of their status.
He was looked down by all classes higher than him and endured the pain of
the loss of loved ones.
Despite everything, he has remarkably fought for our country with sole
purpose of establishing freedom from colonials.
4. What events / Cirumstances could have contributed to Rizals ideologies
and principles which led to the enlightenment of the Filipino people?
When Rizal experienced the struggle of fitting in a school filled with
meztizos, he strived for the best that he could to top every subject all through
his years. When his mother was sick, he strived to be a doctor to heal her.
When he was in Dapitan, he used the opportunity to share his knowledge to
the children residing there.
