This document describes the procedure you use to update the firmware on eSTUDIO200L/230/280, 350/450 and 3511/4511copiers. Following the update procedure
is a section on how to recover the copier if the update fails.
These update instructions are specific for this version
Warnings
For this version, you must do a two-stage update, updating the OS first and then
updating the remaining software if your copiers is at a version earlier than v3801.
Several copier on-screen prompts are misleading. Do NOT follow any on-screen
instructions without first reviewing the corresponding item in this document.
You need to use a USB memory key that is recognized by the copier. A list of tested
devices is found in bulletins Digital-94 and Digital-95. If you use a USB memory key
other than one of these devices, the best practice is to confirm the update works on a
copier in the shop before performing an update in the field.
Print out a configuration sheet, and back up logs, templates, address books,
department codes and other data stored on the HDD before doing the update. In some
cases you need to reformat the drive after the update. Logs are backed up using the
procedure in the Network Administrators Manual Chapter 4 Managing the Device,
Maintaining from TOP Access ~ Backing Up Data. Department codes are best backed
up using FSMS.

e.g. If you are updating an e-STUDIO450 and your USB device is mapped to
drive F on your computer, you can put the files in F:\. If you copier is already at
System version 300, you can put the files in F:\ or F:\350_450.
Do not put any files in the update directory other than the update files. The USB
device must be formatted as FAT (not FAT32).
2. If the copier model has print or scan enablers installed, remove them first. With
power off, insert the USB memory device into USB port on the right side of the
copier. Some models have 2 ports: either can be used. Power up the copier holding
the 4 and 9 keys.
3. Wait approximately 5 minutes for the following screen to be displayed (the screen
varies slightly by model):

* Means the software is selected for update. Note that by default, the OS is de-selected
and all other firmware is selected. This is not likely the correct combination. Specifically
select the firmware that needs updating. In most cases you will select all items. If you
updated the Machine and Scanner using the EPROM jig, then you would de-select those
items.
4. Press Start to begin the update procedure. As each individual FROM is updated, the
copier screen will list that ROM as completed. The process is not complete until all
ROMs have been updated and the screen says Update Completed.

the copier screen as completed. The screen will display at the bottom: Please

This message is incorrect.
When the Please connect next storage key... message is displayed, the update is
complete. Power down the copier and remove the USB memory device.
6. Power up the copier in 08 mode. Do 08 code 947. Turn off copier.
7. Power up the copier. If you get the message Wait, Warming UP and the copier does
not come to ready after waiting an extended time, do code 08-690. Confirm normal
operation. Print out a list print of codes 900 through 950 and compare with the target
values in the ROM History to confirm the firmware is at the proper versions..
STEPS
1- Assist Mode PWR/Clear/3 select #3 PWR down on completion
2- Assist Mode PWR/Clear/3 select #2 PWR down on completion
3- PWR/0/8 690=2 PWR down when reboot is displayed replace HDD if reboot is not
displayed after 5 minutes or an error message occurs
4- Recover firmware via the recovery jig
PWR/8/9 with the recovery jig installed
You only need to select 0 an1 (OS and HDD) for most recoveries. Be sure the
NIC is de-selected (Downgrading a NIC card can cause permanent damage).
Shut machine off when Update Completed is displayed
If you are having trouble getting the USB update of Main or Scan to work,
download the EPROM data and use the EPROM jig to perform the update.
5- Turn machine on normally and test basic copy functions, if basic functions seem to
work carry on to step 6, if they dont troubleshoot problem. (See bottom of page)
6- Update firmware via USB
Follow the instructions described earlier in this document.
7- Test all functions of the machine, If the machine still fails try Additional Steps.

Additional Steps
(only to be performed if you are still having problems)
Some additional steps that may be required if still having problems:
If a Specific Target Fails
If specific target fails (ie: target 13) use the DLM board and try to update the failed board
directly. Usually it is either the SLG or Machine boards
