The association plays a key role in fostering the internationalization and innovation within its members, with
the support of the Spanish Government and regional
bodies in coordination with Spanish local associations.
In 2009 Solartys was recognized as a National Cluster
of the solar energy sector by the Spanish Ministry of
Industry, Tourism and Trade. The association has also
been awarded with the Bronze Label of the European
Cluster Excellence Initiative by ESCA, the European
Secretariat for Cluster Analysis.
Solartys participates actively in several European
funded projects, specially focused on technological
transfer, networking, communication and capitalization.

ABANTIA, internationalized Spanish group of applied engineering installations, assembly, maintenance

and energy offers solutions in reference projects since 1944. The group closed 2010 with a net turnover of
EUR 253.4 million, up from 2009 and a pretax profit of 6.4 million, 50% increase.
The ABANTIA group, made today of 2,300 workers, is committed to industrial maintenance and
deployment of solar power plants in Spain, as well as increase of activity in Poland, Mexico, Guatemala
and Qatar, where it concentrates 18% of the total business.
For 2011 the aim is to consolidate the presence in the U.S. and Canada, both organizationally and in the
development of projects in different states.
The group carries out engineering, development and construction of two large thermoelectric solar plants
of concentration. In Les Borges Blanques (Lleida), the installation will have 25 MW and in 2012 will be the
first to incorporate a unit of hybridization with another source of renewable fuel, biomass. Another large
project, of 50 MW, is located in Palma del Ro (Cordoba). In addition, ABANTIA is promoting and building
several photovoltaic plants for a total of 33.4 MW.

AIRA Termosolar is a company dedicated to generation of thermosolar energy and expert in providing energetic

Aira Termosolar has already designed and built a solar collector, with Fresnel technology which can
supply energy to an industry just at 4 cents/ per kw. This solar collector is now successfully working in

AIRA Termosolar is also promoting the implementation of thermoelectric

The Solar Energy Institute Instituto de Energa Solar, IES- is a research Institute of the Polytechnic University of

photovoltaics started as a major one in 1975. It is worth saying that its probably the oldest center worldwide

facade and yard roof of 13.3 kWp. It carries out R&D on photovoltaic fundamentals, solar cells (silicon,

It is a result of the R&D plan promoted by the Autonomous Region of Castilla-La Mancha Government and the Solar
Energy Institute from Polytechnic University of Madrid. The project is endorsed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The acquisition of the CPV Plants, the headquarter ,and some of the ISFOCs scientific and technological
equipment have been co-financed by Castilla-La Mancha Operative Program ERDF 2007-2013.
In order to generate knowledge on this technology, ISFOC has installed different CPV power plants from various
technologies: Isofotn, Renovalia CPV, and Sol3g (acquired by Abengoa Solar) from Spain; Emcore Corporation and
Solfocus from USA; and Concentrix (recently acquired by Soitec), from Germany; Arima Eco from Taiwn. The objective of these pilot plants together with other new technologies tested continuously by ISFOC is to assist the industries
in the development of this technology providing valuable information obtained in the process such as reliability,
suitability and production from each technology.
At present, some international projects are being carried out in liaison with different technological partners, Universities, R&D Centres, companies, as examples, may be mentioned NACIR Project carried out in Morocco and Egypt;
Masdar CPV Demo Project in Abu Dhabi (EAU).

For more than 60 years, JEMA has designed and manufactured Power

LEITAT is a Technological Center specialized in production technologies and testing industry services. LEITAT
develops R&D activities in the areas of energy harvester and storage devices, smart integration systems and new

Torresol Energy, a company participated by SENER, develops concentrated solar power plants at a commercial
scale in the global markets, also leading their construction and promoting and operating them.
Currently, Torresol Energy is owner of the 19.9 MW Gemasolar plant with central tower receiver and heliostat
field technology, located in Fuentes de Andaluca, in Seville; the company also owns the Valle 1 and Valle 2
plants, two 50 MW twin facilities located in San Jos del Valle, in Cadiz, with parabolic trough technology
(SENERtrough). All three of them are equipped with a molten salt thermal storage system that allows operation
of the plants also in the absence of solar radiation.
