ROCKS

DEFINITION- A relatively hard, naturally occurring mineral material is called Rock.

TYPES OF ROCKS- There are three types of ROCKS
Igneous rock is formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava such as basalt,
granite, pumice, obsidian, tuff, diorite, gabbro and andesite.

A metamorphic rock is a result of a transformation of a pre-existing rock. The original rock is

subjected to very high heat and pressure, which cause obvious physical and/or chemical changes.
Examples of these rock types include marble, slate, gneiss coal, graphite, diamond and schist etc.

Sedimentary rock is formed in three main ways: by the deposition of the weathered remains of other rocks
(known as 'clastic' sedimentary rocks); by the accumulation and the consolidation of sediments such as breccia,
conglomerate, sandstone, siltstone, and shale etc.
