Justine Sawyer Professional Portfolio January 2016- June 2016

This year I am teaching three sections of Drawing and Painting 2 students, 1


mixed section of Drawing and Painting 3 students and AP Studio Art, 1
independent study AP student and 1 full section of AP Studio Art students
stacked with 3 Portfolio Development students at historic East High School in
Denver, Colorado.
January 2016: Voices East High School Art Department Show in conjunction with the vocal
music department
February-March 2016: Scholastics Art Awards at History Colorado Center
Students across the state of Colorado submitted over 6,500 original works during the 2015-2016 competition.
Only approximately 10% of the artworks submitted are selected to be in this prestigious show.

Olivia Wischmeyer honored by the Colorado Watercolor Society for her painting of a
pomegranate Seeds of the Season and presented with a $100 award.

February 2016: Inception of retiree honorary artwork display at East High School.
March 2016: The Denver Public Schools Board of Education proclaims March 2016 as Youth
Art Month and recognizes Olivia Wischmeyer for her 2015 achievement as the statewide
High School Level Winner in the CAEA Flag Design Competition. Framed print of her design
presented to the board and to Mr. Mendelsberg for permanent display at East High School.

March April 2016: Denver Public Schools Citywide High School Show at the Wellington Webb
Building, Denver, Colorado. 13 individual works and one 5-piece portfolio selected from my
classes.

March 1-11, 2016: Youth Art Month student show held at the Colorado State Capitol.
Proclamations obtained from Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper and the Denver Public
Schools Board of Education
March 2016: National Art Education Association National Convention in Chicago, Illinois.
Youth Art Month display and flag from Colorado pictured in the YAM Museum. Mrs. Sawyer
presents Best Practices as recipient of the 2015 Pacific Region High School Educator of the
Year. Mrs. Sawyer serves as Colorados voting delegate to the NAEA Delegates Assembly.

April 2016: "Bringing Back the Arts", First Lady of Denver Art Show. Artwork by four students
showcased.
April 2016: Ms. Sawyer appointed to a two-year term to serve on the Professional Materials
Committee (PMC) of the National Art Education Association by NAEA President-Elect, Dr.
George Szekely
May 2016: 5th Annual East Arts Walk
