Avida lab experiment

objective:
- Our objective is to find if the size of a patery dish affects the average fitness of a population.
-Which of the four size groups 120 by 120, 60 by 60, 30 by 30, and 10 by 10 will be the most fit
after 1000 cycles?

hypothesis:
hypothesis that the 30x30 size group will be the most fit because, we think it will mutate
more rapidly than the 60x60 size group but not the 10x10 size group. The size group 60x60 will
not mutate rapidly enough but the 10x10 will mutate to rapidly.

Test:
1.Drag @anstestors into population viewer
2.change petri dish size to 60x60, mutation rate to 2%, check all suger's,
set to experimental.
3.set to pause run at 1000 cycles
4.run program
5.at 1000 cycles, record average fitness
6.repeat steps 1-5 with dish size 120x120, 30x30, 10x10 twice

conclusion:Our hypothesis was not correct, the larger environment

caused the cells to have a higher avg. fitness. we thought that the on in the
middle would have the highest becuz it goes at an even rate and the bigger
would go to rapidly. it was actually the opposite of that. 120x120 results
were interesting, it was much higher avg. fitness and its graph showed in
as a very low fitness and by the end it spiked up rapidly. We think this is
because in the larger environment they had more resources available to
them, since they had more resources cells could reproduce easier.

-This could represent the evaluation of different organisms raised in an environment of various
sizes and how that affects their evolution.
- organisms living on islands could have a different evolution than organisms living on a
continent with much space.
- organisms in an ocean and organisms in a puddle will have a different evolutions.

suggested improvements: we could have made a 90x90 dish

size so that we could have a more range.
we could have done more tests for each dish size and found the average of
those results.
