Case Study Outline:

The patient I have is Courage the Cowardly

Dog. He is a small pink dog. I am concerned with
him because he seems to be traumatized by
something but Im not sure why. He seems to be
scared of everyone that comes near his owner,
Muriel. He is always scared and therefore, people
tend to think of him as a coward, thus his name.
Everytime he meets someone new, he believes that they will cause harm to his
kind owner who he loves. He sees everyone as an enemy. He is a dog who seems to
be able to save his owners everyday. He was abandoned as a puppy and Muriel, (his
owner) found him by a dumpster. He can be brave for the sake of his owner but in
reality, he is scared and doesnt really know what to do. He must have trauma
because his parents were sent away by this crazy man.
On the Five Factor Model, for Neuroticism vs Emotional Stability, it can be
noted that he is a fragile person, is easily scared, and a very quiet person. For
Extraversion vs Introversion, he seems to be like an introvert and he is never in high
spirits. As for Openness vs Closedness to ones own Experience, he seems to be
going with the flow and just does whatever comes his way yet he is also self-aware
of his own feelings. For Agreeable vs Antagonism, Courage is very trusting of his

owners and he would do anything possible in order to help them. Not only that, but
he is sympathetic for his owners. For example, in one episode, he felt bad for Muriel
because she couldnt sleep so he went to this scary guy in order to help her be
able to sleep again. It seems like Courage is always facing his fears. Finally, for
Consciousness vs Undependability, Courage scored low on everything but he is a
very reliable dog. No matter what, he will always be there for his owners. Some of
the other symptoms he seems to have is that he tends to shake a lot. Not only that
but he also seems to become tense and he comes to remember his past. This might
seem like something along the side of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Some medication that I may be able to give Courage is anything for social
anxiety such as Zoloft or Paxil. Either of these would be fine so that Courage isn't
constantly freaking out when around people. What I could also give Courage is
Prozac. This is to help with his trauma. This medicine tends to help with
post-traumatic stress disorder so he wont be so fearful when he goes out of the
house and it will probably help with fearing people that come to visit
In the end, I came to the conclusion that Courage had social anxiety and that
he seems to have PTSD which may have been caused by his parents disappearing.
He is an overall nice dog but he seems to always have something in the back of his
mind. Hopefully, the medicine I gave him might help with these problems hes going
through.
