These beliefs are ingrained in us from a very young age through television and the beliefs of our parents along with other outside factors. Stereotypes are just one of the many things that drag down people's selfesteem and put up barriers between different races and religions.

    Everybodyseesthem.Inmagazines,atschoolorwork,allovermedia.Alltypesof
    negativestereotypesareseenallovertheplaceanddaybydaywedonothingtostopthem.
    Humansasapopulationareconstantlypromotingthesedegradingandgenerallyfalsestatements
    eventhoughmanyofusdisagreewiththem.Thesepreconceivedideasarejustoneofthemany
    thingsthatdragdownpeoplesselfesteemandputupbarriersbetweendifferentracesand
    religionsbutwestillputupwiththeminourlivesdaybyday.
    Ifyouarereadingthisarticle,thenyouhavelivedlongenoughtohavewitnessedsome
    typeofinaccuratestereotypingoutintheworldbutwhetherornotyouhavereallyrecognizedit
    asstereotypingisadifferentstory.Therearemanyexamplesofstereotypicalgroupingthatwe
    foundstudentsatourschool(PetalumaHighSchool)feelasthoughtheyfeeltheyareexpected
    tofallundereventhoughmanyoftheseexamplesarenottruetothesepeople.Acouple
    examplesare:alljocksareextremelycocky,ifyouaresmartyoucantbeathletic(andvice
    versa),ifyouarepopularyouarearrogantand,peoplewhohaveahigheraptitudeforschool
    donthaveanyfriends/asociallife.

    Dependingonyourviewsyoumayreadtheseexamplesandthinkthattheyare
    completely100%falseoryoumaythinkthattheyareveryaccuratetothepeoplethatyouknow
    butnonethelesstheseideasarenotonlyenforcingbutpromotingpreconceivedjudgmentwhich
    isdetrimentaltothesuccessofmanypeople.Everydayweseepeoplewhoarethoughttofall
    intothesecategoriesprovethemwrongyetsocietystillkeepstheseoutdatedthoughtsaround.
    Why?youmightask.Becauseashumansmanyofusfindsatisfactionincategorizingand
    groupingthingsthatwethinkshouldgotogether,together.Thisrangesfromgroupingand
    namingallthecolorstocreating/discoveringdifferentspeciesofanimals.Thenextbiggest
    questionweshouldaskiswhydowehavethesebeliefsorwheredidtheystemfrom?
    Thesebeliefsareingrainedinusfromaveryyoungagethroughtelevisionandthebeliefs
    ofourparentsalongwithotheroutsidefactors.ForthelongesttimeIwasguiltyinbelievingthat
    allnerdsworeglassesandwereveryuncoordinatedwithverylittletonosociallifejustbecauseI
    sawthenerdofthemovieGrease(EugeneFelnic)identifywiththesecharacteristics.Manyof
    uswere/areguiltyofsimilarbeliefsaswell.
    Stereotypesarenotjustanissueinourowncommunitybutallaroundtheworld.There
    aresuchstereotypesaboutcultures,religions,andraces,thatarebelievedbyahugemassofour
    society.Intheairport,societyfearstheArabicmalebecauseofafewhorribleincidentsbutwhy
    dothoseincidentsdefinewhoeveryArabicmakeactuallyis?ReligionssuchasIslam,
    Christianity,Buddhism,orJudaismarefullofstereotypes.Wheneachofthesereligionsare
    broughtinoureverydayconversationwewillimmediatelythinkthingslikeChristiansareall
    republican,Muslimsareallterrorists,BuddhistsareallAsian,orallJewshavebignoses.After

    hearingallofthesehorriblestereotypes,wenowknowthatsomethingneedstobedonetostop
    thesehorribleaccusationsaboutpeople.
    Thereissomuchonecoulddohelpresolvetheseproblemsofstereotypingpeople
    throughouttheworldorinalearningenvironment.Onethingyoucoulddoisjustignoreit.
    Blockthepeopleoutthatareputtingthesenegativestereotypesinyourheadanddon'toverthink
    thesethings.Anotherthingthatpeopleweinterviewedsaidwasthattheyprovepeoplewrong
    toovercomestereotypes.Theysaidthattheydotheirbesttoovercomethepressuresputonthem
    toliveuptocertainstereotypesorovercomenegativestereotypes.Thethirdwaypeople
    overcomestereotypesistopracticewhatyoupreachandnotchangethewayyouthinkoract
    duetothewayothersthinkyoushouldactorwhatyoushouldbelievein.Youshouldn't
    stereotypepeopleorlistentothepeoplestereotypingyou,justbeyourself.
    Societycontinuestopromotetheseugly,meaninglessstereotypeswhenallindividuals
    seehowthoughtlesstheyare.Aswesawfromourinterviews,peoplecommonlysuccumbtothe
    nastythreatstheyfeeltheyneedbelike.Theseideasaffecteveryoneinsocietybylowering
    people'sselfesteemandseparatingcertainracesandreligionsyetwecontinuetousestereotypes
    inourdailylives.
