Spiritual Discourse by Baba Kehar Singh ji

After greetings Baba ji says, many people

deliver lectures; there may be better speakers
than me... however, I will do my best to explain
what Kabir Sahib says through this shabad.
Our body is a Mansion which does not
contain filth, but a Big Spiritual Secret. What is
that? Through this shabad from His own book,
Kabir Sahib has explained the secret right from
the feet to the top of the head.
This shabad has two parts. The first part
explains our body from the feet up to the eyes.
The second part explains from the eyes to the top
of the head, the Nameless Region. It needs four
hours to explain the complete shabad; so I will
take the second half in which Satguru Kabir Sahib
has talked about the spiritual secret hidden within
us, which is important for a disciple. This also tells
how the Satguru guides us to concentrate during
meditation, and attain Spiritual Power. I will try to
explain all that.

kar naino didar mahal me-n pyara hai.

kanwalan bhed kiya nirvara, yeh sab rachna pind
manjhara.
Radha Soami !
This shabad is from the bani of Kabir Sahib.
He says this human body is a Mansion. In Guru
Granth Sahib Guru Nanak Dev said:

har mandar eh sarir hai .

This body is the Temple of the Living
God.
It is a big mansion, a temple, a mosque. We
cannot gain anything from the outside temples
and mosques. They are just like the schools and
colleges where we go to pass exams; to get
certificates and attain big jobs. They have no
interest with uniting the soul with God.
Temples are also like these colleges; they
talk about uniting the soul with God, but do not
teach the method. God lives in our body. Tulsi
Sahib says:
putli men til hai til men bharaa raaz kul kaa kul.
is pardaa ey si-aah ke jaraa paar dekhnaa.
The centre at the eyes contains the
complete secret. You are to remove the black
curtain and look into it.
Due to this black curtain we are unable to
see inside. In the first part Kabir Sahib has
explained about the lotuses existing from the feet
up to the eyes. What secret exists behind the
eyes? He will tell us in this second part.

Now Kabir Sahib explains what we are to do
in order to unite our soul with God. This is

confirmed that without Guru, Nam and Meditation

- neither can anyone meet God, nor can anyone
do anything. Guru says, after receiving Nam one
should regularly attend Satsang. As the fence
protects the crops, Satsang is a fence to protect
meditation.
People say God lives high up. No, He lives in
us, behind our eyes.
People say there is only filth in us. No, it is
not true. God lives in us.
By attending the satsang regularly, and
doing meditation, we are able to ascend to higher
realms, and are accepted by the Guru.

aankh kaan mukh bund karao, anhad jheenga

sabad sunaa-o
The Guru says you have to close your eyes
and ears, and hold your tongue: In order to stop
talking and quarrelling with others; then you will
be able to concentrate. However, in the outside
world, walking on the road with closed eyes can
cause an accident; and holding your tongue and
closing your ears when your wife is asking you for
groceries will also cause problems, and she will
get annoyed; and how will you eat?
Guru says that in order to concentrate and
hear the Unstruck Music coming from above, you
need to close your eyes and ears and hold the
tongue quiet.

dono til ik taar milao tab dekho gulzaara hai.

Preaching the method which can help us to
go to the higher regions Kabir Sahib says, Closing
your eyes and concentrating at the one central
point, you can see the beautiful scenes inside
yourself.

chand soor aykai ghar lao, sushman saytee dhyan

He further says, You are to see the sun and
the moon, concentrate there and go up through
the Sushmana Nari, the central canal. Hazrat
Mohammed also talked about a star; He said a big
star has appeared.
tirbeni ke sandh samaa-o, bhor utar chal paara hai.
One 'Triveni' is in the outside world, in the
city of Allahabad in India, where the three rivers,
Ganges, Yamuna and Saraswati merge into each
other. This place is considered holy, and people
go there to bathe. Inside our body there are three
paths behind the eyes: right, left and one straight
in the middle, the central canal. We are to go
through that middle path.

This is just the starting point of the five
stages above. Not only do Radha Soami's speak

about these five stages, but Guru Nanak Dev ji

also
referred
to
these,
naming
them:
Dharamkhand,
Giankhand,
Sharamkhand,
Karamkhand and Sachkhand.
Some Mahatmas name them as Sahansdal
Kanwal, Trikuti, Daswan Dwar, Bhanwargupha
and Sachkhand. The people following the Sikh
religion limit themselves by believing only up to
these five; but on the basis of his own research,
Soami ji referred to three more regions: Invisible,
Inaccessible and Nameless. This is also based on
Guru Granth Sahib which says:

too akaal purakh nahi sir kaalaa, too purakh alakh

agam niraalaa.
You are an immortal being. Death does
not hover over your head. You are
Invisible, Inaccessible and Unique.
Mohammedans also refer to these stages as
Mukame Allah, Mukame Allahu, Mukame Lahoot,
Mukame Anahoot and Mukame Haque.
All the religions have talked about the five
stages, what is wrong if Radha Soamis also say
so? The path of Radha Soami is based 100% on
Guru Granth Sahib. We are not to be blamed if
someone does not study and agree with us.

Christians also depict this by candles and bells in
their churches.
dakini sakini bahu kilkare, jum kinkar dharm doot
hankaaray
Crossing Sahansdal Kanwal we see the
crooked passage of 'Bank Nal'. Guru Granth Sahib
says:

khandio tikhee balo-n nikee

It is sharper than a sword and thinner than a

single hair.
Kabir Sahib says:

mukt dwara sainkra rai dasve-n bha-yae. man to maigal

ho-I raha nikse kyokar ja-yae
The door, the passage to liberation is
as narrow as one-tenth of a mustard
seed.
The mind is very big.
How can it pass through?
We have to go through this narrow and
crooked passageway. This tunnel is narrow like
the eye of a needle; and a human being is like an
elephant. How to pass through? Satguru is there
to help. He consoles the disciple and asks him not
to worry. It is not impossible. Kabir Sahib says:

Spiritual Discourse by Baba Kehar Singh ji

satgur aisaa jay milaeye tuthaa karay pasao. mukt

dwaraa moklaa sahjay aa-o ja-o.
If you are under the protection of a
Perfect Master, this passage becomes
big enough and you can easily come
and go.
You are accompanied by your Guru. He
helps you. With the utterance of Satnam this

narrow passage changes into a bigger one and the

soul's size becomes small like an ant. So passing
through this crooked tunnel becomes easy.
On the way we meet many negative
powers; the satanic powers called Dakini and
Sakini. They create terror in us. Kabir Sahib says,
Do not get frightened. Your Guru is with you so
they cannot harm you.

satnam sunn bhage sare, jub satguru nam uchaara

hai
The disciple does get frightened; but
Satguru tells him not to get terrified, and to
utter Satnam. Listening to the Satnam all
these negative powers run away.

Mandal, Trikuti and Guru Pad. Sahansdal Kanwal

is the capital of these three. Shri Ram Chander ji
had approach up to Trikuti.
Trikuti is the region of Brahm where the
Vedas were created; and the three sons of Kal
named Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv were born.

aykaa maa-ee jugat vi-aa-ee tin chaylay parvaan.

ik sansaaree ik bhandaaree ik laa-ay deebaan.
jiv tis bhaavai tivai chalaavai jiv hovai furmaan.
oh vaykhai onaa nadar na aavai bahutaa aihu vidaan.
aadays tisai aadays.
aad aneel anaad anaahat jug jug ayko vaysu.
The One Divine Mother conceived and
gave birth to the three deities. One, the
Creator of the World; One, the Sustainer;
and One, the Destroyer. He makes things
happen according to the Pleasure of His Will.
Such is His Celestial Order. He watches over
all, but none sees Him. How wonderful this
is! I bow to Him, I humbly bow. The Primal
One, the Pure Light, without beginning,
without end, throughout all the ages, He is
One and the Same.
This is the region of Vedas. The Vedas
themselves say that their reach is only up to
Trikuti, and they have brought you here; however
the road does not end here, it goes still further.
Next you see what is to be done, as the principal
says to a student passing the tenth class, there
are colleges for higher education; by studying
10

Kar Naino Didar

Spiritual Discourse by Baba Kehar Singh ji

there you can become an engineer, a doctor, etc.,

etc.
The Vedas too say Neti-Neti; which means
this is not the end. They say, we have brought
you here and the path ahead is open, you can
study and go ahead.
The reference of the Vedas reminds one of
Brahma - who resides in the genital center,
Vishnu who resides in the neval center, and Shiv
in the heart center. They were born in Trikuti and
their Mother assigned them the duty of
Generating, Sustaining and Destroying, and
allotted their individual seats in the lower body.

nigure pyas mare bin keeya, jaa kay hiyay andhiaara hai.
Going to these upper regions is impossible
without a Guru. Even going up to this stage of
Trikuti, no one can access without a Guru.
Vashisth, (an ancient rishi), also came here with
the help of a Guru. Without a Guru there is total
darkness, the darkness of ignorance. There is a
saying that an illiterate is like a blind man who
lives in darkness. This too is a type of darkness of
ignorance. Without a Guru it is not possible to go
up. In these regions if the Guru is away even for a
moment, the negative powers fascinate the souls
and try to create hurdles. The males trick the
females, and the females trick the males. But the
Guru is always with the disciple to protect him.
Without Guru, Knowledge and Meditation, no one

has ever met God, nor can anyone ever meet Him
in the future.
I have already mentioned that reaching
Sahansdal Kanwal we see the Light and hear the
Sound of the Gong and Conch Shell. Prior to that,
we have a section named Jhinjari Deep. Here we
see the light of Jhilmil Jot. Prior to that there is
another stage where we see Sakha Jot (another
light). Yoga practitioners and the people believing
in rituals are concerned with these. We are
concerned with the Light behind the eyes and the
Sound of the Gong and Conch Shell.
At Trikuti we see the light of the Rising Sun.
The sun rises and stays the same color. The
sound of thunder is heard there. Then we go
further to Daswan Dwar.

I have already referred to the sound of
thunder and light of the rising sun at Trikuti.
Listening to these sounds, people there dance as
we dance with music in this world. Such is the
environment there.

The Gods Jyoti and Niranjan are there at
the first stage, at Sahansdal Kanwal. At Trikuti
the sound of Omkar is heard. Listening to the

sound of thunder and seeing the light of the rising

sun, you can be sure that you are in the domain
of Trikuti, a station of the Vedas.

saadh so-I jin yah garh leenha, nao darwaajay

Kabir Sahib says, crossing Trikuti the soul
becomes a Sadhu. This is not like the sadhus seen
in the outside world, who are the dacoits who loot
the people. The souls crossing Trikuti are the real
sadhus, per the description of Guru Granth Sahib.

sadh ki dhoorh karo ishnaan, sadh oopar ja-i-ay kurban.

charan sadh kay dho-I dho-I pee-o. arap sadh ko apna jio.
Bathe in the dust of Sadhu's feet. Be a
sacrifice to the Sadhu. Drink the water used
for washing his feet. Surrender your life to
him.

daswaan khol jaaye jin dinha, jahaan kuphul raha

maara hai
Kabir Sahib has quickly reached Daswan
Dwar. Could we also reach there so fast? The
border of Trikuti and Daswan Dwar is like the
Wagah border near Amritsar in Punjab, India. On
our side the Indian military is there, and on the
other side Pakistani forces are there. To enter in
these territories, we need to seek permission.
While crossing the border of Trikuti, Kal questions
the soul, Where are you going? The Guru replies,

He is with me. Kal says to the Guru, You may go,

but he cannot as his account is very bad. Guru is
the Almighty God. He asks for the account and
taking it he utters Satnam and the whole account
is destroyed. Guru then asks the Kal, what do you
say now? Kal Niranjan says, The account is not
there. I am helpless. I cannot detain him.

aage saet sunn hai bha-I, maansarovar paithi

Crossing the border we enter our own
region, the Daswan Dwar, Haoze Kasar, Triveni,
Parag Raj, the Pond of Nectar. Bathing in there
the soul obtains the light of twelve suns.

hansan mil hansa ho-I ja-I, milaey jo ami aahaara

hai
Bathing in the Pond of Nectar the soul gets
the light of twelve suns, and changes into a Swan.
This Pond of Nectar has its significance. It is a
high level talk.
Yesterday I was watching the news on TV.
A blind girl of 22 or 23 years of age was bathing
in the pond at the Golden Temple, Amritsar in
India for many days, with a hope of getting her
eyesight back. She prayed to the Satguru to bless
her with eyesight. One day she declared that she
got her eyesight and could see again. The Pond of
Nectar in Daswan Dwar is the real Pond within us.

I have talked about two stages Sahansdal
Kanwal and Trikuti. I have referred to the lights of
Sakha jot, Jhilmil jot, and another Light called
Jagmag Jot - the True Light behind the eyes from
where our mission starts and the sound of Gong
and Conch Shell is heard in Sahansdal Kanwal.
The second stage is Trikuti. It has the Sound of
thunder and the light of the rising sun. This is a
domain of the Vedas.
Now we have reached Daswan Dwar. Here
we hear the sound of Kingri and Sarangi (harp
and mandolin). The Light here is that of the full
moon of the Kartik month - that is October
November. Satguru instructs us to listen to the
sound through the right ear. We are not to listen
to the sound coming from the left ear. If the
sound comes through the left ear repeat the
words of Nam four or five times and the sound
from the left ear will stop, as Kal will understand
that you know the technique.

The soul gets the light of twelve suns and
there is a lotus with eight petals. This is similar to

this domain.

In Sahansdal Kanwal there is a lotus with
four petals. In Trikuti the lotus has six petals. In
Daswan Dwar the lotus has eight petals. (Dal
Kanwal is like a scale.) Now we have reached the
field of great void - which is very dreadful. When
the soul enters the great void, the light of the soul
(equal to the light of twelve suns) becomes like
the light of one candle. As a person with one
candle walking in a thick forest cannot see, the
same is the condition of the soul.

vyaaghar singh sarap bahu kaati, tah sahaj achint

Passing through this field the soul will face
big poisonous snakes showering fire and
frightening lions. The lions jump on the soul. The
soul shrieks, but the Guru asks him to stay
balanced. The soul says, but the lion is attacking
me. Guru says, They can just frighten you, but
cannot do any harm. Still the soul keeps crying.
For example a mother goes out with a four year
old child and a big dog starts barking at him. The
child gets frightened and complains to the
mother, Look the dog is coming to bite me.
Mother says, Don't be afraid and keep going; I
know he cannot harm you. The child clings to her
legs and she takes him in her lap. The child
continues crying and the mother covers his face
with her chunni. The child thinks the dog is gone.

Here is another example. A hen with her

chicks is eating grains. A dog or a big cat comes
to attack the chicks, and they run to the hen; and
the hen puts them under her wings. The dog may
eat the hen, but the chicks feel safe.
Guru is all powerful. To protect the
crying soul he hides him in his own soul and
and passes through the region.

Here three paths are seen right, left and
middle. The middle straight path has the lotus

petal lotus and the left path has ten petal lotus.
Satguru asks you to take the straight path
through the central canal.

banye das dal sahaj sama-I, yon kanwlan nirwaara

We are neither to look to the right path nor
the left - but go straight through the central canal
to the path with the eight petal lotus.

Kabir Sahib says that all these four regions
have not been described by anyone up until now.
These are very big regions but stay undisclosed.
There is no need to describe them.
Baba Jaimal Singh ji once said, If Babuji
(Baba Sawan Singh ji) would have been with me I
could have described these four regions. As he is
not with me, I cannot describe them.

doo parbat ke sandh nihaaro, bhanwargupha tay

sant pukaaro
Then Guru with the disciple passes through
two mountains and reaches Bhanwargupha - the
next region. The path through these mountains is
known only to the Satguru; not to anyone else.
Let us see what that region is.

The Swans are having a good time in the
Court of the Lord. We hear the sound of flute and
Sohang. The Light is more than the previous
region.

Now Kabir Sahib creates interest in us to
see that Region. He says that countless diamonds
and emeralds are studded there; looking like
Beautiful Bulbs with Indescribable Light.
Eighty-eight thousand dweeps or islands
were created; but they are beyond description. All
the three worlds combined together look like the
thickness of one hair in comparison to one of
those islands. Hearing alone cannot give any idea;
as to know the reality, we are to go there.

Krishna as he used to play it.

Next come the Invisible, Indescribable and
Nameless regions.
I need twenty to twenty five minutes to
describe these, but we need not know about
these. We are to reach the Sachkhand.
The Invisible Region has light greater than
Sachkhand. The light of the Indescribable Region
is more than that of the Invisible region; and
Guru Granth Sahib describes the Nameless Region
as Nirala the Unique. This is the Ocean, merging
in which the drop becomes the Ocean. Soul
merging in the Supreme Soul becomes the
Supreme Soul too. All this is possible when the
soul reaches the Invisible Region with the help of
Guru, Knowledge and Meditation. The Lord of this
region welcomes the soul and provides special
glasses. Being in the Invisible Region the soul can
see the Indescribable and the Nameless regions.
Sitting here we can only describe and listen. This
is the Truth, not a make-believe story. To
experience this, all we have to do is go there; and
only the Perfect Master can take us there.
That region has no pain and suffering; only
Peace and Tranquality. No worry of death and
birth.
In the first half of this shabad Kabir Sahib
has described the five stages; from the nails of

the feet to the eyes. In brief I can say that in the

rectal centre resides Lord Ganesh, in the genital
centre Brahma, in the neval centre Vishnu, in the

I have taken you to the last stage - the
Anami Desh; now it is up to you to stay there or
come down.
