A century before Nahum preached in the streets of Nineveh, Jonah
preached repentance in Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. Those people repented and were spared but during the time of Nahum Nineveh would not repent. Nineveh fell into Babylon in 612 B.C. just a few years after Nahum’s warning.
The Book of Nahum is a vivid prediction of the fall of Assyria capital
Nineveh; they were one of the most ancient warlike heathen nations. Nahum’s purpose was to comfort his people who were being harassed by Assyria and to warn Assyria that they will soon meet God’s hand in destruction.
