NARRATIVE REPORT ON NUTRITION MONTH

School Year 2013-2014

Annually, in the month of July, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) leads the whole
nation in the celebration of 2013 Nutrition Month, purposely to disseminate nutrition messages
to all Filipinos through a focal theme. For 2013, the theme is Gutom at Malnutrisyon, Samasama Nating Wakasan. The celebration aims to increase awareness on hunger issues and actions
to mitigate hunger; encourage government agencies, non-government organizations, private
sector, civil society organizations and communities; contribute in addressing issues; and advocate
for stronger political action and hunger.
In support of this developmental endeavor of the nutrition community to be spearheaded
by the NNC, the Department of Education (DepEd) enjoins all schools to participate in this
celebration by undertaking meaningful activities which will highlight the importance of good
health and nutrition.
In compliance, Luyong bonbon Elementary School which is headed by Mrs. Niele B.
Sabornido and her ever supportive Nutrition Coordinator together with the other teachers
conducted a half day program last July 31,, 2013, Wednesday, at 1:00 P.M. to broaden the
knowledge of the parents about the health benefits of good nutrition through cooking contest and
with the help of the two among knowledgeable and well-experienced judges when it comes to
cuisine. We also organized a mini market. Parents brought vegetables and fruits to be displayed
for the parents and children to buy.
We also participated in the municipal cooking contest sponsored by the Municipal Health
Office of Opol. We have 5 Grade 6 participants for the said contest and we garnered the first
prize.
It was indeed an afternoon of fun and learning! An afternoon of talent show! And most of
all an afternoon of vegetables-packed belly!
