(nf ToRONTO Cesar Palacio City Councillor - Ward 17° Davenport May 12, 2010 TO: THE RESIDENTS OF DAVENPORT VILLAGE RE: THE SMOKE STACK LOCATED AT THE INTERSECTION OF FOUNDRY & POWERHOUSE {am writing in response to some questions my office has received regarding the smokestack, located adjacent to Building 10, near the intersection of Foundry & Powerhouse. Over the past week and a half, my office has been working diligently to attempt to find a compromise between the various condo boards, City departments, and the developer that would allow the smokestack to remain. This included an aggressive last ditch effort Via a meeting at Toronto City Hall on May 7, 2010, to which the various parties were invited, and which unfortunately proved to be unsuccessful. Despite this unfortunate outcome for the smokestack, ! am pleased to adviso you that oesrine past few years we have been successtul in working toward the protection and oyrabiltation of Building 13 (Foundry Lofts) and Building 15 (Administration Bullding), ‘jad will soon do the same for Building 10 (tho Powerhouse). The result is what you See taking shape today ~ an award winning community that is simply @ very desiratle place tolive, As you know, my approach to planning issues has been and always will be fo represent the views and wishes of the local community. This approach has been ceRsossful in saving large historical portions of 2054 Davenport Road (the new 11 Piccion Police Station), and restoring the historic Regal Road Portico. Saving and ravtaizing historical buildings in Davenport Village remains one of the success stories in Ward 17_and one of our offices’ achievements. Its unfortunate that an agreement off the long-term maintenance of the smokestack, and the serious technical issues with the smokestack could not be resolved by the parties.
