Stitch Explanantion
Note: All these three given below are decreases that join 2 stitches in to one.
1. Sc2tog: insert your hook into the next st and pull up a loop, insert hook again into the next st and
pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all the three loops on the hook.
2. Hdc2tog: [Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop] 2 times; you get 5 loops on the
hook, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on the hook.
3. Dc2tog: [Yarn over, insert hook in next st and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through two loops]
2 times, yarn over, pull through all the loops on hook.

Sole Pattern
Tips for sole:
1.Count your stitches after every round. You count the stitches you see around the sole after you make
the slip stitch at the end of the round and the slip stitch is also counted as a stitch.
2. At end of each round when pattern says sl st into beginning ch 1, you sl stitch into the next st
visible and when it says sl st to 1st sc of the round you skip ch 1 ( next st visible ) and then slip st to
the next st, the 1st sc.
3. Some rounds involve a mix of sc and hdc to make the toe side wider. It would be a good idea to
use the cursor and mark on the pattern here to know where you are. You might get confused with all
the counting.
4. Sole is worked in the round without turning at each round.
5. Working both the soles will help you get the sandals in the smae size.

1b. Start slip stitching two soles starting from toe side
2. Sl st forms a border
Keep two soles one under the other with the wrong sides of the soles touching each other, and
sl st around starting from the toe side as shown in pic 1b above, using F hook for size 0-3 and
3-6 months and G hook for bigger sizes. Don't make your slip stitches too tight as you will
have to work in to them to make the ankle back or heel side of the shoe. Tuck all the yarn tails
in between the soles before you slip stitch to hide them. See the pictures above. -------------40

Working the Ankle Back and the Toe Strap ( Right Sandal)
Note: The Ankle back is worked in to the contrasting color slip stitches you made to join the
two soles together.
0-3 (3-6 months) - variations in stitch counts if any for 3-6 months are given in
brackets.
Placing Markers before starting Round 1
1. Mark 10 slip stitches on the heel side of the sole. To mark 10 st symmetrically, fold the sole
lengthwise as shown in pic 3 above and count back half the number of stitches, that is 5 st and
place the marker. Repeat on the other side. Once you open your fold you will have 10 stitches
marked symmetrically as shown in pic 4.
2. Use pic 5 above as a guide and place a marker to indicate the point where the toe strap joins
the sole for the right sandal as shown in pic 6. The toe strap is worked as a continuation of the
ankle back.
Round 1
Step 1: Using F hook Sl st to marked st on the right side and work towards the next marker as
shown in pic 7, ch 2 ( not counted as a st) , 1 dc in same marked st, dc2tog, 1 dc in next 4 st,
dc2tog, 1 dc in marked st, ch 3 (4 ) , skip 3 (4) stitches as shown in pic 8, 1 dc in next 2 st, Ch 9
(10) for strap as shown in pic 9, sl st to the point indicated by the marker on the sole, inserting
the hook into both the layers of the sole and up again to complete the sl st as shown in pic 10
above. This is the tricky part, so take your time.
Step 2: Proceed to work back along the chain just made as shown in pic 11 above, sl st into the
first 3 chains ( this will form the part that goes between the toes) , again ch 6 ( 7 ) for the strap
on the right side as seen in pic 12 above.
Note: for step 3 below you might have to hold the loop on your hook with your thumb to work
the dc stitches after the long chain.
Step 3: Skip 20 (21) stitches from the dc you last made and work 1 dc in next 2 st, ch 3 (4) ,
Skip 3 (4) stitches, sl st to first dc you made in to the marked st at the beginning of the round.
Round 2
Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 hdc, hdc2tog, hdc2tog, 1 hdc, 1sc, now you will have reached the Ch 4
loop, 1 sc in each of the 4 chains as shown in pic 13 above, 1 sc in to the next 2 dc, 1 sc in to
the next 5 (6) chains you made for the toe strap, sc2tog in the next 2 chains on either side of the
short strap that runs between the toes as shown in pic 14 above, ch 1 to close the sc2tog , 1 sc
in next 5 (6) chains ( you will have to twist the chain strap to bring the right side of the chain
on top and then work the sc), 1 sc in to the next 2 dc, 1 sc in to the 4 chains.
Round 3 ( partial round worked only on ankle side): 1 hdc in to the sc st on the ankle back,
1 hdc in next 5 st, sl st to next st; turn.
Round 4 ( partial round worked only on ankle side) : Ch 1, 1 sc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 st,
1 sc in next, sl st to next st; fasten off. Your sandal will now look like in pic 15.
6-9 months
Placing Markers before starting Round 1
1. Mark 12 slip stitches on the heel side of the sole. To mark 12 st symmetrically, fold the sole
lengthwise as shown in pic 3 above and count back half the number of stitches, that is 6 st and
place the marker. Repeat on the other side. Once you open your fold you will have 12 stitches
marked symmetrically as shown in pic 4.
2.Use the pic 5 above above as a guide and place a marker to indicate the point where the
strap joins the sole for the right sandal as seen in pic 6 above. The toe strap is worked as a
continuation of the ankle back.
Round 1
Step 1: Using G hook Sl st to marked st on the right side and work towards the next marker
as shown in pic 7, ch 2 ( not counted as a st) , 1 dc in same marked st, dc2tog, 1 dc in next 2 st,
dc2tog, 1 dc in next 2 st, dc2tog, 1 dc in marked st, ch 4, skip 4 stitches as seen in pic 8, 1 dc in
next 2 st, Ch 10 for toe strap as seen in pic 9, sl st to the point indicated by the marker on the
sole, inserting the hook into both the layers of the sole and up again to complete the sl st as
shown in pic 10 above. This is the tricky part, so take your time.
Step 2: Proceed to work back along the chain just made as shown in pic 11 above, sl st into the
first 3 chains ( this will form the part that goes between the toes) , again ch 7 for the strap on
the right side as seen in pic 12 above.
Note: for step 3 below you might have to hold the loop on your hook with your thumb to work
the dc stitches after the long chain.
Step 3: Skip 21 stitches from the dc you last made and work 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 st,
ch 4 , Skip 4 stitches, sl st to first dc you made in to the marked st at the beginning of the
round.
Round 2
Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 hdc, hdc2tog, 1 hdc, hdc2tog, 1 hdc, 1sc, now you will have reached the
Ch 4 loop, 1 sc in each of the 4 chains as shown in pic 13, 1 sc in to the next 2 dc, 1 sc in to
the next 6 chains you made for the toe strap, sc2tog in the next 2 chains on either side of the

16.Work a round of slip stitch inserting hook only through outer or back loop as
shown
19. Pull the yarn tail tightly and cut close to the sole
Copyright 2010 CrochetDreamz. All Rights Reserved
Finishing
1. Using contrasting color yarn again and hook F for 0-3 and 3-6 months and G hook for
bigger sizes, start from the heel side and do a round of slip stitch working only through
the outer loops or back loops of the stitches around the top opening as shown in pic 16.
Fasten off.
2.
The tail from the contrasting color slip stitch might unravel if you weave in along the
slip stitch border itself. So thread the tail with a yarn needle and work your way through
the inside of the ankle back taking care to work only through the inner layer of stitches
till you reach the sole as shown in pic 17 . Once you reach the sole pull the yarn tail in
between the two layers of soles as shown in pic 18, pull and trim close to the sole as
shown in pic 19.
3. The other yarn tails left can also be hidden in the same way.
