Management Theories
I

think the best way to manage a

team is through a blend of the
situational theory and of the
collaborative theory. This
combination ultimately allows for the
most flexibility.

Collaborative Theory
When

the decision-making process is

shared. It allows the manager to
share his leadership with employees
and collaborate to achieve more
positive results.

Management Theories
As

a manager, I always want to

facilitate tasks and use the
collaborative theory to guide my
employees towards success.
This gives team members autonomy
and a sense of accomplishment.
In this case the manager has
become more of a leader who is
there to facilitate and not dictate,
but if need be he can step in and

Managerial Leadership

Managerial Leadership
A

leader is by definition also a

manager, on the other hand a
manager has to strive for the
qualities of a leader in order to be a
good manager.
A good manager should inspire his
employees, like a leader would, to do
their job to the best of their ability
and the easiest way to do so is
through team work in my opinion.

Managerial Leadership
If

you can give an employee the

skills necessary right away through
training, and inspire them to do a
good job, you should never have to
micromanage.
I think that simply trusting the
employees after the training, and
letting them know you trust they can
do a good job, will help create some
followership as well.

Katz Model
It

is important to note that the Katz

model does not imply the higher up
manager does not HAVE any
technical skills. I think of the Katz
model as qualities a manager must
USE on a daily basis.

Katz Model
I

believe it is important for a CEO to

possess all three qualities but he
may have enough understanding of
the job and enough conceptual skills
to create a new position under him
that will help the company move
forward.

Vision, Mission, and

Goals
If

employees can relate to a

companys vision, mission, and
goals, they will most likely adopt
them as their own and therefore
work harder because they care about
the goals they are trying to achieve.

Vision, Mission, and

Goals
A

manager should therefore strive to

create a vision, mission, and goal,
that aligns with his employees
personal core value (or hire people
with similar values as the company).
The manager must also realize those
values may change over time and
need to change to keep the company
moving forward.

Motivation
Were gonna have a good time!

Motivation
Choose

a job you love, and you will

never have to work a day in your
life.
Confucius
Motivation is without a doubt the
hardest task a manager might
encounter.

Motivation
How

do we motivate people?

Journaling:
For example, having all your employees come
up with a quote of the day, or writing about
something that made them happy at the end
of each day.
Random acts of kindness:
Because positive reinforcement is the best
way to motivate someone (attaching gold
stars might help reinforce this even further).

Motivation Continued
Challenging your employees:
People like to be challenged, they want to
have a sense of purpose and mastery at their
job.
The manager can also facilitate the employee
into the position they need to be in to
succeed before stepping back and letting
them run the show.

Discipline
Because

most people like to be

independent, making them
accountable for their actions by
providing expectations and
consequences before an issue comes
up will most likely result in less
procedure violations and therefore
lower the need of disciplinary actions
being taken.

Discipline
Disciplinary

actions must also be

taken as positive learning
experiences for all the parties
involved, rather than criticism or
punishment.

My Management
Philosophy
I

used to think about management

as an extremely simple act of
controlling a team of people in a way
to accomplish a common goal set
either by the individuals or a
company for example.

My Management
Philosophy
Theories

like the group/exchange

theory, or the situational theory are
extremely important for a manager
to succeed.
Being able to seamlessly go from
one to the other is something I will
strive for, and I think it is extremely
important to know and apply them.

My Management
Philosophy
But

at the end of the day, a good

manager might be doing all these things
without realizing it, not everyone knows
all those theories, and new theories are
always being created.
A manager that can come up with them
only through self evaluation and as a
response to his employees performance
is going to be extremely successful, and
that is where I want to be.
