The distribution is somewhat normal, but it is skewed left. All the data values
are between 55 and 64 . My bag of candies falls within the box and the most
common frequency. This is what I expected because the bag can only hold so many
candies and the Skittles Company doesnt want their customers to feel cheated out
of their money for the candy.
Reflection:
Categorical date summarizes the information into categories while
quantitative is a direct amount. Categorical data can be used in frequency
tables/charts but it wouldnt work for things like pie charts or line graphs.
Quantitative data can be used in pie charts, line graphs, histograms, etc. but not in
frequency charts.
(Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate for the true mean number of candies
per bag)
Mean: 59.5
N= 27
S=2.596
T= 2.056
E=.197
59.5-.197=59.303
59.5+1.97=59.697
To have a 95% confidence level, the true mean should be 59.303 to 59.697.
(Construct a 98% confidence interval estimate for the standard deviation of the
number of candies per bag.)
N= 27
S=2.596
X^2L=1.959
X^2R=12.196
To have a 98% confidence interval, the standard deviation with be between 1.959
and 3.79.
Hypothesis Tests:
A hypothesis test is to use knowledge to guess what the outcome of a population
will be.
(Use a .05 significance level to test the claim that 20% of all Skittles candies are
red)
T= 2.55
P=.017
.017 is less than .05, reject the claim.
(Use a .01 significance level to test the claim the mean number of candies in a bag
of Skittles is 55.)
T= 8.838
P= 3.644
3.644 is greater than .01, fail to reject the claim.

Reflective Writing
From this project, I learned how to use applied statistics. One may think the
average of something is X, and with statistics you can test and see if that person is
wrong or not wrong. I learned how to set up and apply difficult math problems such
as finding the standard deviation, which will help in future math classes. Finding
mean and proportion can help future business owners calculate average income,
etc. It helped my problem solving skills by thinking about the range the average
should be in and if that makes sense or not. Math may seem to be something that is
not used in everyday life, but statistics is commonly used and can be used for
calculating many different things that are used at the home, in businesses, etc.
