TOPIC: Factory Farming
POSITION: Con

Opening Statement:
Factory farming is inhuman. Killing animals has
been needed to provide us with food, but when we
savagely and inhumanly kill them, it is not
acceptable and its cruel way to get food. Many
communities find the killing of the animals very
sacred and have process to effectively harvest the
animals.

Big idea #1: Harms our

eco system

uses more fossil fuels to produce the

meat rather than a healthier plant
based protein alternative.

Organic agriculture can remove from

the air and sequester 7,000 pounds of
carbon dioxide per acre per year

deforestation

soil contamination, erosion, and

degradation

Big idea #2: Diseases

If one of the animals gets a disease

most of the animals around that animal
would probably get infected, too

Salmonella is more common in the

United states...Other countries dont
wash eggs before they sell them like in
the united states, yet we are prone to
get the diseases and the need to
refrigerate them. Chickens in American
convictional farms live in a dirty
environment where they are in closed
rooms with their own wastes.

The air quality in some hog barns

contain several gases and dust
particles that can cause short term and
long respiratory disease

Big idea #3: The way

factories work

Workers are mostly men and they do

whatever they feel like doing to the
farm animals, hitting cows in their
heads, stabbing them and burning
them with hot tools, throwing piglets
into the ground.

They dont even use real people to

milk cows, they use machines that are
really inhumane on their udders.

The workers are consistently exposed

to harmful gases that could eventually
lead to many diseases and disorders

Big idea #1:faster

production

this is how the idea of mechanized

farming came to be, set up as assembly
line to make process faster and
effective

This also meant that replacing

someone would be easy due to them
having only one job that was simple

take more time to produce crops

because they refrain from using the
chemicals and growth hormones used
by conventional farmers.. time is
money

Big idea #2: expensive

organic products typically cost 20

percent to 100 percent more than their
conventionally produced equivalents.
Organic farming is more expensive than
conventional farming
fertilizer is more expensive
no chemical = more labor

Big idea #3: People's

choices

There are farms that are humane

and dont use chemicals on the animals

Its up you if you consider eating
that, we can't control your choice
(if you're low on money and can't
afford)
Its up to peoples choices we don't have
control over people

Great quotes:

Quotes:
Argument: For Against
Air pollutants cause losses in crops, trees, ornamentals and
turfgrass in excess of $1 billion per year

Quotes:
Argument: For Against
The content of animal feed poses particular health risks.
Traditionally, cattle subsisted on a grass-based diet, but
government corn subsidies and demand for more fatty,
marbled beef motivated farmers to switch over to grainbased feed. Enter E. coli.

Closing Summary:
As you can see many americans don't know what
they eat, they simply just buy without knowledge.
many of them don't know the companies they are
buying from are abusing, hurting, and destroying
lives. Many people have gone vegan after
witnessing the brutal and disturbing content put
out there by journalist, but instead of becoming
vegan you could simply change to purchasing

from a farmer,or an organic source.
