ASSESSMENT
STRATEGIES FOR ASSESSMENT

Observation
Students will complete Broccoli Brad Worksheet before and after activity.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
STRATEGIES TO MEET DIVERSIFIED LEARNERS

For students who need assistance with coming up with things that are fruits/veggies and fat/sugar; Teacher

will bring out a small Portable Board with T-Chart on it: One side of the chart has a smiley face while the
other side has a sad face.
-Under the sad face is pictures of examples of fats and sugars.
-Under the smiley face is pictures of examples of fruits and veggies.

For students who cannot seem to perform a certain locomotor movement, teach the class as a whole each
specific movement, so that they can explore the movement individually first.

For students who cannot seem to throw the fluffy ball gently, exercise an example and have the whole class
try as a whole with a partner first.

For students who cannot seem to be polite in tapping their classmates shoulder and high-fiving them: class
will practice before starting the activity how to properly accomplish these tasks.
MATERIALS, EQUIPMENT, and/or TECHNOLOGY NEEDED

Fluffy Balls (optional: can decide to just have students tap each other)

STEPS THROUGH THE LESSON

INTO (set the stage; the hook, lesson objectives)

Hook sentence: Who can tell me what sugar

is? Who can tell me what fat is? Who can tell
me an example of each? Do you guys think
that eating a lot of sugar and fat is healthy or
unhealthy for you? How about fruits and
veggies? Show pictures of examples of fruits,
sugars, fats, and vegetables and have students
label what category they are in.

Pass out Bradley Brad Worksheet and mini

pencils, and ask them to please fill out the
worksheet with the fruits and veggies they eat
and know about more.

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)

To introduce the concept and importance of

healthy nutrition to students.

To see what fruits and veggies the students

can think of off the top of their head before
the activity.

THROUGH (instructional input, modeling, checking

for understanding, guided practice)

Warm-Up: 10 second toe touch (L&R)

10 second reach for the sky
10 second arm stretch (L&R arm)
10 second jog in place

Guide through game: Two students will be

chosen to play the Sugar Shooter and the
Fat Filler.
-Rest of the students will be told to scramble
around the play area and act as the healthy
citizens of the community.
-When teacher cues music, Fat Filler and
Sugar Shooter will skip their way around
the city trying to capture as many healthy
skipping citizens as they can by lightly tapping
them.
-Once healthy citizens are caught, they must
jog in place till a healthy non-caught citizen
taps their shoulder and says either fruit or
vegetable.
-Captured citizen must then respond with the
name of a fruit or vegetable and once he does,
both citizens high-five each other and then
they are both back in the game skipping away
from the villains.
-Students will stop once teacher pauses music,
then teacher will choose two other players to
act as the villains and then another round of
the game will take place.

Cool down: 10 second toe touch (L&R)

10 second reach for the sky

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)

To get students active using their locomotor

skills, while learning about the importance
of not consuming so much fat and sugar.

To get students to recite different names of

fruits and vegetables to their classmates.

To make sugar and fat seem like villains

and fruits and veggies like the
superheroes.

Warm up exercises an stretches to allow the

students to warm up their muscles to engage
in the activity, preventing any injuries.

Cool down to allow the students to relax and

calm down to enter classroom mode again
but with a more awaken mind.

Hands all-in activity to provide a sense of

teamwork.

BEYOND (independent practice, further research)

Students will once again complete the Broccoli

Brad Worksheet but this time using different
names of fruits and veggies than the first try.

Closure: Leave children with, Today you

heard the names of a lot of different fruits and
vegetables. Ask a parent or guardian to include
some in your dinner tonight. All hands in;
count of three say awesome.

RATIONALE (why are you doing this?)

This is done to assess whether the students

were able to broaden their knowledge of
naming fruits and vegetables. This is to
provide them with the perspective of how
many fruits and veggies there really are
available for us to eat.
