Physiology
Functions
Movement- muscles contract,
cause movements at joints
Posture- hold you upright
Joint stability- holds bones/joints
in place and allows movement
Heat production- muscles
contract and cause blood to flow to

major muscles

Analogy of the Muscular

System
The muscular system is said to be like a pulley system. When you have a rusty wheel that doesnt turn
well, you are forced to pull the rope harder and becomes a struggle. The system wont be as efficient as
it usually is. Chiropractic fixes the inefficiencies and restores normal strength and range of motion.

Medical Terminology: Muscular System

Cardia - Heart
Duction - Movement
Phagia - Eating , Swallowing
Ambulate - To walk
Algia - Pain

Aging
Problems you may suffer:
Move at a slower pace
Movement will be stiffer/ less flexible
Hand grip strength weakens (harder to turn door handles and open jars)
More of a chance to lose balance
More prone to getting arthritis
Increased risk of injuries

Diseases/Disorders

Muscles are what control movement in ones body. Sometimes problems can occur with
the muscles. Diseases and disorders occur in the Muscular System. In the Muscular
System, some diseases are Muscular Dystrophy, Fibromyalgia, Cerebral Palsy, and many
more to name.

Muscular Dystrophy
- a group of diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass.
-abnormal genes (mutations) interfere with the production of proteins needed to
form healthy muscle.
- genetic.
-It disables patients to walk.
There is no cure; however, there are medications that can help manage and

FIBROMYALGIA
- Disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory
and mood issues.
-Women are more prone to getting this than men.
-This occurs over time or may be awaken by a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant
psychological stress.
-There is not a cure but there are mediators to helps with the pain.

CEREBRAL PALSY
-Physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological
stress.
-Symptoms are exaggerated reflexes, floppy or rigid limbs, and
involuntary motions
- It cannot be cured, but there are treatments.

MAINTENANCE
You can maintain a healthy body system by exercising at
least an hour a day. Exercising builds muscle.
