The Collaborative Mirror

Michelango Pisotletto is a famous Italian painter born on June 25, 1933. He grew up
being mentored by his beloved father, Ettore Olivero Pistoletto. While painting a black,
varnished surface, he saw his own reflection. This had a great effect on him and he resolved to
make painting on mirrored surfaces. He had friends model for him and he created beautiful
pieces of reflective artwork. Mostly all of his work now deals with the subject matter of
reflection and the unification of art in everyday life.
This article absolutely astounded me. A man created a new way of art and is now
acknowledged as one of the main representatives of Italian art. He saw a new, beautiful way of
creating art that he loved and the rest is history. I also learned that science coincides with art.
Pistoletto had to think of many ways to accurately portray reflections and make them look
realistic, which took a lot of physics knowledge. He was a brilliant man who revolutionized a
lovely piece of art that most everyone enjoys today.
