subcategory

L-1-2 Demonstrate knowledge of stages of

growth and development of pediatric client.

Describe one significant learning experience in

this coarse related to the CLPNA competency.
Provide an example

One significant learning experience that I have

had during the nursing foundations 2005 course
that is related to the CLPNA competency is
connecting the knowledge I have already
acquired through babysitting and personal
experience with factual nursing information.
This has become a significant learning
experience because I have learnt the necessary
comprehension to ensure the safety of the child
during my nursing care. I also feel that this
experience is substantial because using the
stages of growth and development I am able to
identify the best communication approach for the
child to ensure that optimal comfort and health
priorities are met. An example is when a child is
making a fuss regarding feeding themselves with
no adult help. I know have the necessary
schooling to recognise the child is at a
developmental stage where autonomy is
essential. I have been educated in the appropriate
skills and furthered my knowledge in nursing
foundations 2005 regarding the stages of growth
and development in a pediatric client which
otherwise would have been limited before this
class

Describe what you learned and how it relates to

the competency.

During the nursing foundations 2005 coarse I

have been educated on numerous skills in
relation to the stages of growth and development
of a pediatric client. The stages of growth and
development are infant, toddlers, preschoolers,
school age, and adolescents. During these stages
the child will complete stages of cognitive and
moral development as well as resolving
conflicts. It is essential the pediatric nurse
demonstrates their knowledge of growth and
development to communicate effectively with
the child to ensure all health needs are met.
This is meaningful because it promotes overall
client safety during the stages of development. I
believe it is significant to have education on the
stages of growth and development in a pediatric

Explain why it was meaningful/significant.

proficiency in the chosen CLPNA competency.
Explain what was done to achieve the
competency.

Describe how you will apply this learning in

your current and future nursing practice.

client because in order to recognize the adverse

circumstances one needs to be able to identify
the normal for that child developmental stage. It
is important to be able to apply the talents learnt
in real life and under pressure. The broad
spectrum of knowledge obtained develops a way
of thinking that can be applied in diverse
circumstances to promote overall well being of
the child.
The CLPNA competency is L-1-2: Demonstrate
knowledge of stages of growth and development
of pediatric client. I believe I have a proficiency
rating of good because although I have
knowledge in regards to the stage of growth and
development in a child I have never had the
clinical experience to implement this knowledge
into my nursing to receive an excellent rating.
This competency has been achieved through
attending all nursing foundations 2005 lectures.
During this time I have wrote several notes in
regards to the subject, as well as asked any
questions of concern. To promote optimal
learning I have spent several hours reviewing the
course material after class time. With this rating I
believe I have the adequate amount of
knowledge to have confidence in a clinical
setting while prompting overall health for the
growing child.
I will apply this learning to my current and
future nursing practice by transferring the
knowledge learnt in regards to growth and
development in a pediatric client into a real life
setting. It is important to have the knowledge to
keep the child comfortable during their hospital
experience. As a pediatric nurse, it fundamental
to communicate effectively with the child to
ensure their understanding on both sides. With
my future nursing practice I will not only take
into account my current knowledge but I will
continuously further my knowledge as the
pediatric nursing evolves.
