C-3-2 Demonstate knowldage and ability

to appy principles of aseptic or sterile
technique to client, during urinary
catheterzation

One of the siginificant expeience related to CLPNA competency in this

course is how to maintain sterile technique to prevent infection. For
example the procedure of inserting catheraization.when I inseriting or
removing a urinary catheter. The nurisng fondation book, class theory
and prior video as well as labratory lessons and pracitces helped me to
perform very well. during the laboratory pracice i was so interseted to
learn how to perform the correct procedure of urinary cathater step by
step following the preparation of the equipmen to insert and remove the
catheter. inadition to this , i book an open lab during weekends for
more practices. weekends, to enhance my knowledage and skills.
I learned about the strile techniques how to insert a catheter in males
and females in differnet ages of the client. What i learned from this
course that before inserting a catheter, i should assess the clietn for
bladder distention and note any signs, when and how amount last time
voided, how often the client voided per day, this is very important
because it can hlep as student nurses to pervent dehydration and
disease such as edema that may affect clients. Moreover, i learned what
size urinary catheter for aduluts and pediatrics. I found it its harder to
insert a catheter on people with spinal cord injury may be more
challenge because motor and sensnory impairment may require
cahnges to catheterization technique. I also learned that catheter is the
most common infection but follwing proper techniques as well as
maintining good sterile technique can prevent the spread of the
microorganisims. An indwelling cathater drains urine from our bladder
into a bag outside our body. Common reasons incontience, urinary
retention ,surger or other health problems. Removing a cathaer was
anather challenging technique, but through a variety of pratices i
learned that is good to defalet the balloon before pulling off the
catheter to prevent discomfort that can be experinced by a client.

DESCRIBE HOW YOU

WILL APPLY THIS
LEARNING IN YOUR
CURRENT AND
FUTURE NURSING
PRACTICE

I rate myself fair on profciency because i am still learing and need

improvemnet. I need to improve in develping more knowledage and
applying a seterile technique to prevent infection when i inseration an
indwelling catheter. Beacuse in proper cathaterziaion can lead to
infection. As Practical Nusre i will be put my theory knowledage that i
have aqcuired in calss to my clinical placements. For example, when i
am cleaning indwelling catheter i have to wash hands, cleaning a skin
around catheter and gently hold the cahteter and begin washing the end
near your vagina or penis.
Knowing about the whole process of sterilze tecqniues of
cathererization is very important beacuse it allows us to prevent further
infection and there fore can hlep us to intevened as soon as possibe to
avoid any complicaions. When i will start practicing in Nursing field i
will be resposible to provide care to my patient by following sterile
techniques and teach them always keep the bag below your waist.
Furthemore, i will also demonstate knowldeage and provide instuctions
to patients how to care themself and promote safe handling equipment
and prevent infection once they return home. As a urinary tract
infection most common problem with an indwelling urinary catheter, if
any sings of pain around your sides or lower back, urine smell bad or
differnet color and burning sensatinon to report to the health care
professiaonal.
