I liked doing art this term. I could

create any animal. I chose a seed
bug. I made it up. Its not a real

EXPLORE TEAM

Exploring in Term Two

This term we are conSnuing to explore the way we learn
and how we can work together as a team. We are
looking at our school values and what they mean to us
in Team Explore. The children will be looking at the steps
they need to take to become self-managed and self-
directed learners.
Our Inquiry focus this term is on creaSvity and design.
We will be looking into New Zealand Culture and then
creaSng our own pieces of wearable art. Later in the
term we will be asking for crahing supplies, such as
boxes and fabric. We will also be looking for some
parents to help us create our masterpieces.

Activities for the Year

We break for a story and a snack at 10am. This should

be a healthy snack such as vegetables or fruit.

We appreciate that it can be dicult to keep up with

expenses for student acSviSes throughout the year. We
endeavour to do our best to provide fantasSc learning
opportuniSes and experiences for your children while
keeping costs to a minimum. The expected cost for the
rest of the year is $30-$35 per child in Team Explore. We
have swimming early in Term 3 and we are planning a
possible Art Gallery Trip for Term 4.

Meetings with the teacher

We are available in our homebases from 8.30am for
general chats and greeSngs. If you have any concerns or

Library
Homebase 7/8: Thursdays

We look forward to an exciSng term with you and your

children!
Adele, Claire, Tracy, Ngaire and Nathan

Homebase 10/11/12: Wednesdays

However, for the rst seven weeks we will be going to
the library on Mondays, due to gymnasScs.

Literacy
As our children are becoming condent using a range of strategies to decode
text we start to focus more on understanding what the text is saying. The
children are switching from learning to read to reading to learn. Your child
will not move up colour levels as frequently as they did in their rst year of
schooling. Your child may not bring home a dierent reading book each day as
the texts are longer and teachers are focusing lessons on using comprehension
strategies. There will be weekly library sessions and a selecSon of familiar
readers that children can bring home. We encourage your child to conSnue to
read each night. You are welcome to use your own books or books from the
local library as well. ConSnue to make reading enjoyable!
