Facts about Amerigo Vespucci:


An Italian explorer
The first to realize that south and North America are nowhere near Asia
Born in Florence, Italy
Discovered Venezuela a year before Christopher Columbus
America was named after Amerigo Vespucci, a Florentine navigator and
explorer who played a prominent role in exploring the New World .

First voyage- 1497

Voyage that traveled through the West Indies and into the mainland,
which took 5 weeks
Traveled with a fleet of Spanish ships
Departing from Cadiz
Arrived Cadiz in 1498
Second voyage-1499
Sailing under the Spanish flag
Under the command of Alonzo de ojeda
Crossed the equator
traveled to the coast of guyana
left ojeda to explore Brazil
He discovered the amazon river and Cape st. Augustine
Third voyage-1501
discovered present day rio de janeiro and rio de la plata
Set sail for Cape Verde
Vespucci's ships sailed along the coast of South America from Cape So
Roque to Patagonia.
Vespucci and his fleets headed back via Sierra Leone and the Azores.
Found a new continent-South America added to the new world

His father was pressuring to get into a business when he was 24 but ended
up working in a bank in Spain

Guido Antonio Vespucci was ambassador sent Amerigo on a brief diplomatic mission to
Paris. The trip likely awakened Vespucci's fascination with travel and exploration.
