    History
    ThelandwaspreviouslyownedbyafamilywithclosetiestotheSriAurobindoAshramand
    inyearspasttheMotheroccasionallyvisitedthesite.Shegreatlyappreciatedthenatural
    beautyanddeepsilenceofthespot,gaveitthename"Quiet",andspokeofitasthe(future)
    siteofwhatshecalled,"aspecialkindofhotel"wherepeoplesufferingfromthestressof

    Manyyearslater,oneoftheMother'sformersecretarieswasmovedtohelprealizethis
    vision.Fundswereraised,thelandacquiredforAuroville,andconstructionoffacilitiesbegun.
    TheQuietHealingCentreopenedinFebruary,1997.
    ThehealingworkatQuietisbasedontheunderstandingthatapersonisfirstandforemosta
    spiritualbeingseekingtoexpressitstruththroughtheinstrumentalityofthemental,vital,and
    physicalnature.Disharmoniesoccurasthemoreorlessignorantinstrumentsdeformthe
    energiestryingtomanifestthroughthem,anditisthesedisharmonieswhichwerecognizeas
    disease.Thevarious(noninvasive)therapiesofferedatQuietallseek,inonewayor
    another,toaddressthepatient'sdifficultiesonanenergeticlevelwhichis,indeed,theonly
    levelfromwhichrealhealingcanproceed.Eachtherapyhonorsandstrivestoworkin
    harmonywiththebody'sowndeepwisdom.Eachtherapistrecognizeshimselfasahumble
    tooloftheindwellingSpiritwhois,ultimately,theonlyHealer.

    HealingRetreats
    Since1998,theQuietHealingCenterhasperiodicallyconducted'healingretreats'.AQuiet
    HealingRetreatisahighlystructured,tendayresidentialprograminwhichacombinationof
    intensivegroupworkandindividualtherapyenablestheparticipantstoexperience
    themselvesinnewways.Theaimistobringtheparticipantsintocontactwiththatdeeper
    partoftheirbeingfromwhichwelltheirownhealingenergiesandtoequipthemwiththe
    knowledgeandtechniqueswherebythatcontactmaybemaintainedaftertheyleavethe
    program.
    Quiethealingretreatsarepresentlyofferedonlybyprearrangementwithgroupswhich
    undertaketoprovidealltheparticipantstotheprogramme:agroupsizeoftentofourteen
    peopleseemstobeideal.
