Course Description
This is a reading/discussion class that meets eight hours a week from Monday to
Thursday. There are NO classes on Fridays. This class prepares students to learn basic
reading, skim long texts, finding main idea of the text, and learning basic vocabulary
about daily life. They will be able to create question and answers, and practice writing as
a sub skill.
Course Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course:
1-Students will have the ability to distinguish main ideas of reading by using the reading
techniques, skimming and scanning.
2-Students will be able to understand daily life readings and vocabulary through using the
daily routines vocabulary in context.
3-Students will be collect and be acknowledged with 600 words about daily life and
routine.
4-Students will be capable to ask and answer questions about readings and vocabulary
related to daily life vocabulary and other subjects.
5-Students will be able to Identify and use daily vocabulary in and out of the classroom.
Course Requirements
1- Students must take a short quiz every week about readings with certain words and
pre-taught vocabulary.
2- Students must write a Unit exam, a midterm and a final exam.
3- Use the blue book (vocabulary book) to insert new words that they couldnt
understand.
4- Students are expected to complete their homework even if they are absent.
5- Students must ONLY speak English in class.
6- Students have to arrive early to class and if they are 10 minutes late then they are
considered absent.

7- Students must behave nicely with their classmates and professor.


8- Attendance is penalized if its more than 80%.

2- Goldstein, J.A and Shapiro, N. (2009), Oxford Picture Dictionary: second edition.

3- Blue book (Will be used for writing the vocabulary words)

Academic Policy:
1-Any act of cheating, plagiarism, and fabrication of information will result in
immediate failure.

3-Students must attend the final exam at the end of the last week of the course. NO
EXCUSES! Except for a signed medical report or a problem with school transfer, with a
proof of that problem.
