SECTIONS FRAMEWORK

The SECTIONS model is a framework developed for selecting and using


technology. It will further assist you to select the correct technology when
planning a lesson.

The intent of this framework is to provide instructors and others who are
integrating technology into their learning projects, with a framework for
planning that will allow you to assess the fit between:

Part 1: DEFINE (6)


Instructions: Using the lesson your taught 1-2 weeks ago, answer
the following questions in the space given:

1. I want my students to learn: the different grips associated with the


hockey stick and also I would like the students to work in groups
cooperatively in answering questions.

2. I think I could be more effective in facilitating this learning if I: had


more time and had involved more teaching implements in the lesson to
make it more interactive and interesting for the students.

Part 3: Implement (6)


Implementing a new approach or technology for the first time is an
experiment. Engage your students in helping you to assess it. Gathering
some impressions during implementation will help you to make decisions
about whether the experiment is worth continuing and what additional
considerations you may need to make in order to improve the learning
experience.

Based on your lesson delivery last week or the week before, answer the
following questions. You may use your classmates to assist you in answering
these as they were your students:

1. In observing the students engaging with this activity I realized that


they were very attentive and seemed a lot interested in the lesson
being carried out.

2. The technology I have chosen is enabling the learning because... it


grabs the attention of the students and that enabled their attention in
the lesson its like they were intrigued by the technology.

3. The technology I have chosen is a barrier to learning because... it can


malfunction at times and that can cause a lesson not to be carried out.

4. Feedback from students about this technology is... that they liked that
they could come up and touch the board (selecting answers on the
interactive power point) and its fun learning with the smart board.

Part 4: Refine
Refining your approach requires some reflection on the activity. Create a plan
to make any changes or refinements. Reflect on the following and use the
information you gathered from your own and students feedback during
implementation.
Based on your lesson delivery last week or the week before, answer the
following questions.
1. What worked? The thing that worked is when I started the interactive
power point because I liked that the students got so much engaged at
that very moment as that was its purpose to get the students engaged
and interacting.

2. What didnt work and why? The thing that didnt work was that no
podcast was used with would have been a great listening activity for
the students.

3. I need to change.... I need to change the power point itself and


integrate different ways of grasping the students attention for
learning.

4. My plan to make this change is... find out various ways of integrating
different medias and or technologies to make learning interesting.
