Dress Code

Dress Code Policy for Grades K-8.

Items that are not specifically addressed in the following dress code must have teacher or principal
approval before wearing the item to school. Please help your student(s) dress appropriately for the
weather knowing they will spend time outside during recess, before and/or after school.
Blouses and Shirts
All students may wear solid-colored white, navy, or red long or short sleeved shirts and blouses. Blouses
and shirts must have a collar, turtleneck, or mock turtleneck. Our Lady of Lourdes School logo polo shirts
may also be worn. T-shirts are not acceptable. All single layered, straight bottom shirts are allowed to be
un-tucked. (Shirts are required to be tucked for school Mass.) No printed T-shirts should be visible
through shirts and blouses. Shirts and blouses should not be too baggy or tight fitting. Shirts may not be
tied or fastened with clips or bands.
Pants
Pants should be solid-colored in navy or khaki. No blue jeans, sweatpants, stirrups, nylon jogging type
pants, bungee pants, form-fitting stretch pants, or oversized baggy pants are allowed. Shorts or capri type
pants may be worn as part of the uniform, but must adhere to the same guidelines as pants. Length of the
shorts should be appropriate for school attire (no shorter than 4 inches above the knee). This also includes
shorts worn for Phy. Ed. classes.
Jumpers and Skirts
Kindergarten through fourth grade girls may wear the uniform plaid or navy jumper. Sixth through eighth
grade girls may wear the uniform plaid, navy or khaki skirt. Fifth grade is a transition year; either the
plaid/navy jumper or plaid/navy/khaki skirt is acceptable. All girls may wear the navy or khaki split skirt.
The length of skirts, split skirts and jumpers should be no shorter than the top of the knee.
Sweaters, Sweatshirts and Fleece (Full zip, 1/2 zip and 1/4 zip) No Hoods
Students may wear solid-colored navy, red, or white sweaters and Our Lady of Lourdes non-hooded
sweatshirts. Students may also wear Our Lady of Lourdes black or navy fleece. Sweaters and sweater
vests may be cardigan or slip-over style with a crewneck or V-neck style. Fleece can be the full zip, zip,
or zip style. Only Our Lady of Lourdes non-hooded sweatshirts and fleece may be worn as part of the
uniform. Sweatshirts with any kind of cuts are not allowed. Hooded sweatshirts may be worn on casual
days only.

Undergarments/layering
Layering of clothing is allowed. The under layer must be the appropriate uniform colors and must be
tucked in at all times. Under-layers may include long sleeve t-shirts that are appropriate school colors and
are worn under a uniform shirt. It is considered inappropriate for undergarments to be showing at any
time. Camisoles are considered undergarments and should not be seen. Any boy wearing loose fitting
pants (khakis or jeans) must also wear a belt so undergarment cannot be seen if shirt lifts up.
Socks
Socks must be worn at all times. Girls may wear solid colored tights. Leggings will be permitted, as long
as they are worn under a skirt.
Footwear
Leather or athletic shoes may be worn. Shoe soles should be non-marking. Tie-shoes must be kept tied.
For safety reasons, only shoes that enclose the entire foot are permitted. Sandals, high heels, Crocs, clogs,
flip flops, hiking boots, moccasins, and Heelies will not be allowed. Shoes must have firm supportive
soles. The Uggs style boots may be worn as long as the pant leg covers the outside of the boot. Students
should have a separate pair of athletic shoes for physical education. These shoes may be kept at school.
Hair
Students are expected to maintain clean, well-groomed hair that does not obstruct their vision in any way.
Hair accessories, such as feathers or colored hair, may not be worn unless it supports a cause such as the
pink breast Cancer awareness extensions. Plain headbands containing minimal decoration will be allowed.
Makeup
Minimum make-up in good taste is acceptable for eighth graders only.
Jewelry and Accessories
Visible body piercing is not permitted, except for button or post earrings worn by female students. For
safety reasons, no hoop or dangling earrings are permitted. Jewelry and accessories must not distract the
student or others. Fashion scarves are only allowed on dress down days.
Tattoos
No visible body tattoos are permitted. Drawing or writing on skin is not allowed. Exceptions related to
writing on skin or rub-on tattoos may be permitted by the School Principal.
Other Uniforms
Scout uniforms may be worn on the day of meetings.

Mass Days
During Mass jackets may be worn during the cold months as determined by the staff. Only items that are
traditionally classified and sold as jackets will be permitted at mass. Non-uniform wear including hooded
sweatshirts will not be permitted at mass. Students will need to tuck shirts in before and for the duration
of mass.
Designated Non-Uniform days
On special event days when uniforms are not worn, clothing should be clean, modest, neat, free of rips or
tears and offensive or inappropriate messages. Blue jeans are allowed unless specifically stated otherwise.
Dates will be scheduled by an advisor for shirts associated with co-curricular activities. Hats may only be
worn in the building on designated hat days (not allowed on regular dress down days). Nothing that
represents gangs (chains, turned hats, etc.) may be worn on school grounds. Nothing that refers to alcohol,
drugs, or is sexually related may be worn on school grounds. Hooded sweatshirts of any color may be
worn on non-uniform days.
Dress Code Violations
Consequences will follow procedures outlined in discipline procedures handbook.
