Music Event Marketing Materials
You work for the graphic design department of your music promotion company. You have been
asked to prepare an advertising campaign for the event. You will investigate existing print and
audio/visual advertisements and present your ideas to your employer. You will produce the three
of the following items:

Flyer
Poster
Ticket
T-shirt design

TASK 1
Unit 15 P1: Analyse an existing Advertising Campaign + Unit 32 P1:
Understand existing graphic design work for media products
Your task is to:

Analyse the marketing materials for the Glastonbury Festival and the advertising
campaign for Think Drink Driving Campaign
Your evidence will be:
A written report on the Think Drink Driving Campaign. You will consider the following
elements:
a) aims and objectives
identify the aims and objectives of the campaign
b) target audience
describe the target audience - age, gender, demographics
c) representation
Look at the characters shown in the advertisements - describe their appearance,

what they are doing. Explain what messages are being conveyed about the
behaviour of these characters

Identify the campaign message - explain how the advertisements convey this

An annotated analysis of the Glastonbury Festival print materials: You will address the
following elements:

a) Purpose what will the graphic object be used for?


b) Format what kind of graphic product is it?
c) Content what graphical elements can you see? Consider: text, image, logo,
heading, sub-heading, dates, times etc.
d) Style how has the graphic been designed? Consider: colour choice, font choice,
image choice. You should comment on the reasons for these choices.
e) Layout how have the elements been put together on the page? Consider: size,
alignment, positioning, use of white space, negative and positive space

Unit 15: M1 you should also:


analyse audio visual advertisement as part of the campaign and explain how
advertisements in different media can be linked and used together to convey the campaign
message

TASK 2
Unit 15 P2: Be able to plan an advertising campaign that includes
print products + Unit 32 P4: Be able to plan for the production
of related graphic design products
Your task is to:
Produce a written proposal for your advertising campaign and 3 related graphic
design products.

Your evidence will be:


1. A written proposal that includes the following information:

Aims and objectives of the advertising campaign

A description of the products you will be including in your advertising


campaign

A description of the target audience include information on age, gender,


demographic, geographic, interests, social group, spending power

The campaign message

2. A Production Plan for the creation of the advertising campaign and 3 related graphic
products that includes the following:

A schedule to include launch dates

Locations for the advertisements

Budget for the advertising campaign and the creation of the graphic products

A report on the legal and ethical consideration (i.e. ASA, copyright) and
explain how it will affect your campaign

Unit 15 M2 you should also:


Plan for the use of related TV or radio advertisements that can be used as part of the
campaign.

TASK 3
Unit 15 P3: Be able to plan original print-based advertisements to
be used within an advertising campaign + Unit 32 P2:Be able
to generate conceptual ideas for related graphic design
products
Your task is to:
Create high quality visualisations of your ideas for the three graphic products,
including a print-based advertisement. Your ideas should demonstrate how you
have arrived at your final ideas and how it relates to the target audience.
Your evidence will be:

Moodboards/mindmaps

Draft ideas/sketches/visualisations

A production plan for the creation of your three graphic products GANTT chart

Budget for making the advertisements

For Unit 15 M3 you should also: produce detailed plan with good designs

For Unit 32 M1 you should also: produce ideas that are fit for purpose and
appropriate to the needs of the target audience
For Unit 32 D1 you should also: ideas are imaginative and demonstrate a high level
of visual appeal

TASK 4
Unit 15 P4: Be able to present print-based advertisement ideas to a
client for feedback + Unit 32 P3: Be able to present
conceptual ideas for related graphic design products to a
target audience
Your task is to:
Present your graphic products for feedback in a focus group by creating a board
showing your conceptual designs
Present your advertising campaign to a client including your production plan,
schedule and budget and advertisement designs
Your evidence will be:

Video evidence of your presentation

Visualisation board

Audio evidence of client meeting

Production plan and advert visuals

For Unit 32 M2 you should also: present a rationale for your designs based on the
suitability for the target audience.

TASK 5
Unit 15 P5: Be able to produce an original print-based
advertisement to be used in an advertising campaign + Unit
32 P5: Be able to produce related graphic design products
Your task is to:
Produce three graphic products that demonstrate that you have responded to
feedback from your client and focus group.
Your evidence will be:

An advertisement for your music event

A T-Shirt design for your music event

A logo for your music company

For Unit 15 M4 you will also: Demonstrate how you have responded to feedback in
your final designs
For Unit 32 M3 you will also: produce graphic products that are fit for purpose,
appropriate to the needs of the target audience
For Unit 32 D1 you should also: products have a high level of visual appeal and are
of a high technical standard
