3.4.5StormwaterRunoff
A ten year stormfacilitywouldbe incapableofhandlingaonehundredyearstormdueto
the exceptional excess of water which would be flooding the facility. Storm water facilities
should be designed based on the worst possible scenario that could occur during the life of the
systems usage. The runoff from a hundred year storm is greater than a 10year because it is
designed to handlemorewatersincea100yearstormisstrongerthana10yearstorm.Themain
reasonwhyfacilitiesshouldbedesignedbaseon
100year storm is that this will give assurance that the facility will not fail when theres a
dilemma, furthermore it does notmeanthata100yearstormwillonlyhappenonceinahundred
years, it could happen several times in a century. It is very important to consider storm water
management when laying out a siteplanbecausethiswillgreatlyminimizethemaintenanceofa
buildingandthiswillalsohelpabuildinglastlonger.
