Summary of Skills
I am well organised and always finding new ways to further improve my teaching. In a classroom
environment, I regularly monitor and scaffold students learning. While on my practicums during my
study in Secondary Education, I regularly ask why and please explain questions to students to
give me their answers. I try to prompt students who do not have their hands up to contribute to

class discussions. This is useful as that it engages the whole class and doesnt allow a few
students to dominate the lesson. I keep students motivated with varied, lively approaches.
Developing Students
As part of my teaching, I always take into consideration the different learning needs of students
and modify my lessons to meet these. Extension pieces of work are given to students performing
above their Year Level. For lower end students, tasks are broken down into smaller, manageable
steps to ensure they succeed. While being an academic mentor for Curtins AHEAD Mentoring
Program at Swan View Senior High School, I had set up a tutoring session every Monday after
school for students who would like extra Mathematics assistance.
Focus on Performance
As a reflective classroom pre-service teacher, I value highly the advice and experience of my
mentor teachers. I always look upon working within a team as an opportunity to exchange ideas,
discuss issues and share a common aim to develop programs of learning that fulfil the
requirements of the Australian Curriculum and inspire students. During my practicums at John
Forrest Secondary College, I had given timely feedback to students with assessments by clarifying
and addressing areas of concern. Students were required to reflect about how well they performed
in their assessments through a mathematics journal. This allows them to identify factors that may
have hindered their results and therefore develop strategies to improve.
