To Whom It May Concern:
As you know, the Syrian crisis has elevated to such a height that the United Nations
stopped counting the "Syrian death rate in mid-2014" (Black 1).. My name is RJ Maokhamphiou,
a sophomore at Antelope High who has been monitoring the Syrian crisis since its birth. Syrian
refugees are fleeing its country in numbers in order to free themselves of the conflict of the
Syrian Civil War taking place. The refugees are attempting to start a new life in the United
States, which has sparked controversy against lawmakers. When President Barack Obama is
petitioning to the government to allow in 10,000 Syrian refugees and to have them be spread
across the states. Regarding the current refugee crisis, lawmakers are correct in the decision to
not permitting them entrance into the United States due lack of trust for our President and lack of
proper screening procedures.
The current situation is Syria and its civilians are in the pit of a civil war between the
government and the government protesters who wish to oust Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
The fighting has worsened to the point where the countrys national wealth, its institution and
its infrastructure have been almost completely destroyed. It has also rewritten the death and
injury totals and stats, claiming that 11.5% of the countrys population has been killed or injured
since the crisis erupted (Black 1). The fact of the matter is that there is a current civil war, it is
making the death and injury total rise exponentially and Syrians are trying to flee from this
conflict.
As one compares the Syrian refugee crisis to the WWII refugee crisis, many similarities
become evident between the two situations. Back during WWII, German Jews were not let into
United States territory when they fled their homeland due to Hitlers reign of terror. The Jews
were not allowed because of widespread anti semitism and the idea that Germany would plant
spies (Associated Press 1). into these group of fleeing German Jews. This is just likes the Syrian
crisis due to the idea that the United States is at a competition between politicians on whether or
not to let the refugees in. The admittance proposal has been denied and people are comparing it
to just like when the United States denied German Jews fleeing their country (Associated Press
1). In the end of t all, there are obvious similarities between the two situations concerning
refugees.
The current law makers decision is to not admit the Syrian refugees and I personally
agree with this course of action. Two reasons why I support this decision is refugees wont be

properly screenedand the militants may sneak in with refugees. The lack of trust between the
voters and the President enable them to be convinced by Obamas proposals. The screening
process says it will only admit widows and orphans but widows and orphans both need male
figures in their life. Also, when men do get admitted, the screening process cannot pick up
militiamen that sneak in and try to plot against the United States (Tribune News Service 1). This
basically means that the screening process cannot detect any threats and that is why current
government voters disagree with Obama on this case. His lack of tightening the screening
process and the idea that he will not keep his promise of just admitting orphans and widows
shows why current lawmakers disagree with Obama on this one.
Conclusion:
The voters of this law are right by not allowing Syrian refugees in due to lack of trust
between the government and President Obama, the improper screening, and the idea that
militiamen may sneak in with the refugees. I personally want the Senator to vote against
allowing Syrian refugees into the United States in order to protect our nation. Thank you
for your time.
Sincerely,
RJ M. Maokhamphiou
