Compliments

Reflection

After meeting with the

discipline committee we
decided that if we wanted
classes to behave in the
hallway, then we needed
to reward those classes.
The system had to be
simple and easy to
access. Each hallway
was made responsible
for putting up a bulletin
board. We posted the
rewards and compliment
tickets near each wall.
There was a decline in
student behavior issues
in the hallway. When the
compliment boards were
first initiated they were
very helpful and it did
make a difference. After
some time I noticed the
use of the compliment
boards began to fade
out. My mentor made me
aware of the importance
of following up with staff
to ensure the progress of
programs. I know for next
year to follow up more
often. Some teacher
suggestions were that we
announce classes as
they gain compliments
on the intercom and also
allow more chances for
classes to receive
compliments, to make
this more effective next
year. All of the
suggestions above will
be used.

Committee School Store

Discipline

There was a lack of

school wide recognition
for good behavior. As a
committee we decided
the best thing to fix this
would be a school store
store. We had to
determine what would be
the best and easiest way
to implement something
with over 1,000 students
and 60 plus teachers.
Once all of this was
established the school
store was opened in
January. We did our best
to make the store a big
deal. Once students
were made aware of it
they were very excited.
But some teachers did
not participate in allowing
their students to receive
a chance to visit the
school store. The
teachers who did use the
store shared that some
behavior issues did
decrease in the
classroom because
students wanted to go to
the store. Some
suggestions for next year
were that we start the
store in August and can
the store be made a
bigger deal. Next year I
do plan on starting the
store in August. As far as
the layout of the store
and how we can make it
a bigger deal I will
present this to the
committee so that we
can work together to
make a decision.
The presentation that I
was asked to put
together was helpful to

many. I do believe that

next year, the discipline
committee should do
more with providing
training to staff. Building
relationships and
classroom management
can be an issue for many
teachers on our campus
every year. I believe that
it will be important each
year to evaluate data and
determine from the data
what our staff needs in
regards to training. Also,
a suggestion that I have
is that we really focus on
how we can help first
year teachers more so
that they are not too
overwhelmed.

The two day visit to the

dental services was very
rewarding. Students
were well behaved and
eager to have their teeth
cleaned and learn the
right way to take care of
their teeth. There were
not many parent surveys
submitted.

Math Month Math Bee

The math bee is a project

that must be strategically
planned. Once a date is
established everything
must be sent out in a
timely fashion to ensure
success. The students
enjoy participating and
watching the math bee
because of its fast pace.
Making sure that all
documentation was sent
out and translated was
the most important thing.
We want parents to
participate in school
events and be informed.

Sometimes we do not do
the best job with this so it
is important to make sure
flyers are sent out well in
advance. The math bee
allows for students to
practice and check their
math fluency, which is
something that is
practiced all year long.
One thing that needs to
be more planned out is
the set up of bonus
rounds. Many of the
students in the math bee
knew their facts very
well. So it was
challenging to do the
bonus rounds because
the students did so well
with them. So next year
bonus rounds will have to
be more challenging in
order to establish a
champion for each math
bee.

Parade

The math vocabulary

parade was successful.
When teachers needed
clarification they came to
me and I helped them
with any concerns that
they had. Students were
engaged and excited to
share their projects with
the school. The parade

finished on time so that

we could dismiss with no
issues.
