LabReportExerciseExperiment

Thislabreportaddressestheanalysisofrestingbaselinedatacomparedtoexercisedata
fromthecardiovascularsystemandrespiratorysystem.Thecardiovascularsystemisthebodily
systemdealingwiththeheartandtherespiratorysystemisthebodilysystemdealingwiththe
lungsandyourbreathing.ThelabsIconductedforthecardiovascularsystemconsistedofEKGs
andtheanalysisoftheEKGs.Theindividualwavewasbrokendownintovarioussectionsand
eachsectionwastimedandanalyzedincomparisonwithanindividualwavethatwastakenafter
exercise.TherespiratorylabsdealtwithourlungvolumeandthePHlevelsinourbreaths.The
datacollectedwasanalyzedandbrokendownintodifferentexhaletypesandtriedthreeseparate
times.

Inthislabreportthequestionisasked:Whateffectsdoesexercisehaveonthe
cardiovascularsystemandtherespiratorysystem.Ibelievethatifwetestourcardiovascularand
respiratorysystemsbeforeandafterexercisethenapatternwillbecomeevident.

experimentsespeciallywhileusingthePHdetectorbecauseitcanbeacidic.Usingthe
spirometerbagtocheckourlungcapacityalsorequiredextrasafetyprecautions.Wemadesure
tocleanoffthemouthpiecebeforeandafterexhalingintothebag.

Theproceduresofthislabwerenotverycomplicatedbecausewebasicallydidtheexact
samethingstwicewithonlysmallamountsofexerciseinthesecondround.Wemeasuredthe
capacityofourlungsbyexhalingintothespirometerbag.WeusedtheEKGtoconductourheart
beatbeforeandafterexercising.Wecountedourbreathsandheartbeatsmanually.Weblewinto
acupofwatertoconductPHlevels.Alloperationsweconductedweredoneagaininthesame
fashion,theonlydifferencebeingwedidthemafterashortamountofexercise.

averageofallthem.Thesecondchart(figure3)wasconductedafterexercise.

Thechartsbelowarespreadsheetsofdatathatwascollectedinhopestofindwhat
exerciseactuallydoesdirectlytotherespiratorysystem.Thelungcapacitywasmeasuredin
differentcircumstancesandrecordedoverthreetrials.Thebaselinedatathatwascollectedprior
totheexerciseremainedconsistentandhadoveralllargenumbers.Especiallywhenyoudirectly
comparethebaselinenumberswiththenumbersthatweregatheredoncetheexercisehadtaken
place.Thenumbersdecreasedbyprettylargemargins.Thecolumnthatshowstheaverages
revealsthesimplestandmostpressingchanges.Youcanseetheoveralldatadrastically
decreased.Thisisduetotheoxygenleavingyourbodyatamuchquickerrateduringthe
exerciseandyourrespiratoryorgansworkinghardertogetmoreoxygenbackin.Thisdoesnot
allowyourlungstoactuallyfillbackuptotheirmaxcapacitythereforenotallowingyouto
exhaleasmuchairasyoumighthavebeforetheexercisingtookplace.Thefastpaceofyour
breathingallowsforquickshallowbreathsratherthandeeperones.
ThereisalsoaPHstorywithinthislab.Duringthelab20mlofwaterwastestedforthe
amountofPH.ThenthewaterwasblownintobywayofstrawandthePHlevelsweretested
again.ThisalloweddatatobecollectedregardinghowtheCO2levelsfoundinthebreathsthat
areexhaledaffectedthelevelsofPHinthewater.Thenthepercentofchangewascalculatedand
assessed.Thenthesamelabwasconductedwithasmallchange.Beforeweexhaledthroughthe
strawandintothewaterweexercised.Thendatawascollectedtoseeanypattern.Asthedata
showsmoreCO2waspresentaftertheexercise.Thisisbecauseoftheshallowandquick
breathingthatexerciseinduces.TheCO2intheexhalesmadethewatermoreacidictherefore
raisingaffectingthelevelsofPH.

Asyoucanseebyassessingthebelowgraph
andchartofthedatacollected,exercisedidhaveadirecteffectonthecardiovascularsystem.
Thebaselinedatathatwastakenpriortodoinganyexercise.Afterexercisingthewaves
experiencedobviouschange.Theheartratequickenedimmediatelyjumpingfrom70alltheway
upto117.Theexercisecausedthehearttobeatfasterbecausethecellswereinneedofoxygen
replenishmentatafasterratethanwhenyouareatrest.Achangeintheheartwaveswaivedafter

theexerciseasyoucanseeasawholeandtheindividualwavessuchasthePRwave,QRS
wave,QT,andtheRwaves.Allofthesesectionsofthewholewavequickenedandbecame
more
extreme
becausethe
heartwas
beating
fasterand
harderinan
effortto
bringthe
blood
throughthe
bodyandgivetheoxygentoallcellsinneedofit.
