Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2007

Excel 2007 is the spreadsheet software in the Microsoft 2007 Office suite that allows you to store, organize, and analyze
numerical and text data.
Directions: For each of the topics below you will click on the links to discover and learn the basics on Excel. Please
review topic to answer the questions/statements below. Type your answer response in the document in italics.
Lesson 2: Starting a Workbook

1. To create a new blank workbook, after left-clicking MS Office button and selecting new, what happens?

7. List the steps to modify a column in Excel. Do not copy and paste from the website put into your own words in a bullet
list. WARNING: Must be in own words, if not you will lose 20 points from your grade.
First you have to position the cursor over the column line in the column heading, and a double row will appear.
Next left click the mouse & drag the cursor to the right to increase the column width or to the left to decrease the
column width.
Then release the mouse button or you can left click the column heading of a column you would like to modify
and the entire column will appear highlighted
Finally click the format command in the cells group on the home tab and a menu will appear.
Last Select column width to enter a specific column measurement and select autofit cloumn width to adjust the
column and all of the text will fit.

8. How do you insert a rows into a spreadsheet?

you have to select the row below where you want the new row to appear.

you have to left-click a cell to select it, or drag your cursor over the text in the formula bar to select it. then click
the bold or italics command.
